Of the 24 players below I would keep 8, and I am not sure about 3, but the rest I would let go. However if we go down which seems likely most of the ones I would keep will probably be off. If we are in the championship I will despair if we keep the likes of Dunne and Hill. Time to rebuild with young hungry players from lower divisions as Tony promised at the Championship final whatever league we are in. No more Rio's or Zamora's. The wage bill will also be a lot less. Green (Out of contract) GO - He may have made some great saves this year but according to the Sun today has cost us 6 goals this season due to his mistakes. McCarthy STAY- I have always liked him in goal but needs games. Murphy NOT SURE - Might be an okay stand in goalie. Trarore GO - No defensive skills and not very good. Caulker STAY - I think he can get better and worth a chance. Ferdinand (Out of contract) GO - Big mistake Tony, what a waste of wages. Hill GO - Thanks Clint but have to be ruthless and time to hang up your boots. If we are in the Championship we need a younger player in this position who can adjust if we do go up. Yun STAY- Underrated should stay and can look class at times. Had some issues but put that down more to the oldies around him. Isla (On loan) NOT SURE- Can't make my mind up if he is worth keeping or not. Onuoha STAY - Not that confident about him but could be used as a squad player. Dunne (Out of contract) GO -Too old and becoming injury prone. Becoming the new Zamora. Philips STAY - Shown he has what it takes under Ramsey. Barton (Out of contract) GO - That red card cost us. Will always be a liability at some point during the season. Fer STAY - Needs to improve but believe he can. Wright-Phillips GO - He is about league 2 standard (sorry league 2 to insult your players). Faulin-STAY - Hope he gets fit and can stay fit. Kranjcar GO - 29 but looks like a 35 year old. No speed. Henry GO - Can get a better player in this position. Hoilett GO - Not called toilet for nothing. What happened to that young guy from Blackburn who promised so much. Taarabt GO - Overweight and thinks he is better than he actually is. A liability and you have to accommodate him and he sulks anyway. Also think he upsets the squad. Thanks for the memories of four years ago. Sandro GO - Not worth 10 million and injury prone. Probably get about 4 million for him. Austin STAY - Scores goals. Vargas (On loan) NOT SURE- Never hardly been played in the right position Zamora (Out of contract) GO - Should of went last year but sentiment played it's part. Tony you need to get tougher.
Dire reading. I would keep Henry and I'm afraid we will not be keeping Austin whether we want to or not. I would love to keep a fully fit Ale Faurlin but I'm afraid I can't see that so I would let him go too. Would love to be wrong about this one. Barton - tricky. he's certainly cost us but he plays with passion and does inspire the team. Tough call as also a liability as you correctly say.
Bit harsh on Dunne to label him injury prone after one bad injury. He was our best defender by a mile this season and last. Onuoha will probably get a Prem club in for him- good reputation in the game and underrated by us. Also on far too much money. Caulker will surely find another club stupid enough to take him. Absolutely no chance of any of Austin, Fer or Phillips hanging around.
Dunne was once a great defender but it is evident he does not have the pace any more and has had one bad injury but also missed a few games throughout the season. My point was that at his age it won't get any better. He has been at fault for a number of goals, that said so have the other defenders. But his mistakes are down to speed and you can't afford that in the top flight. Keep him in the championship and you have to replace him if we did get promoted. I would rather we get young players in who can progress and maybe adapt if we get promoted. If we stay in the premiership he certainly can't do another season.
I would additionally keep. Barton as club captain Hill in a coaching role. Dunne reserve CB Henry stay... Solid midfielder I would hope some how to keep Phillips and Fer, but may not I do not want Austin or Taarbs, and happy to let Green go. Traore, SWP and Hoillet I will be glad to see the back of.
Agree if we stay up he should go but we can't go into the Championship with all kids. Experience is essential. If Onuoha and Caulker stay then fair enough but if Ehmer is playing it would be ideal to have the experience of Dunne or Hill with him. We'll probably just sign Aaron Hughes anyway.
You could argue that the ones you want to go and the ones that will go we'll end up with no one out of that lot. Joey will have his wages slashed along with whoever else stays.
If we go down the ones I want to stay will probably go, and a lot of the ones I want gone will stay because we won't have money to replace them. Could mean we are struggling in the Championship but a lot depends on what the owners will do.
Beth has a possible set-up but I doubt if Fer and Phillips remain. I also hope I never see another kebab thread on here again.
I have a very funny feeling about these two actually...I have a scent of loyalty in them. Phillips because he was going nowhere till Ramsey came, and Fer we have stood by him through injury, and he is not a "superstar", he is an above average player, who could become better with a run in a team that is positive and going somewhere (remember he got relegated with Norwich)...bioth may cut their losses and stay with us...unless a lot of money talks If I was negotiating. I would say ...stay til January...and see how it goes
Agree entirely. Not only do we still have a slight chance of staying up, but we could see performances, injuries, and off field changes over the next month that may change a lot.
Who is actually out of contract at the end of the season - there are many that I would like to move on (Hoilet, Traore, SWP)? We won't see Vargas and Isla at the end of the season again, as they will return to their clubs and they won't be booking a ticket back to west London any time soon! Luckily Nico will be back in Kiev (is he really only 29?! blow me sideways!). As said Austin will leave regardless. Caulker, Philips & Fer - who knows? I think they have done enough, particularly Philips, to attract suitors even if it is on reputations earned previously. Sandro - certainly overpriced not sure if he will attract much attention, and may end up staying as probably won't be able to generate the wages elswhere. IF, he stays will he be up for the slog of the Championship? Barton - I think offer him a two year contract on greatly reduced wages, though he will want 3/4years as it is getting towards his last contract - i think he may well stay, and for some reason I think he has developed a bit of a soft spot for us (all based on absolutely nothing! just a feeling!) YUN & Onhua - yes keep, solid and you know what you are getting.
I think there is a chance we can stay up, but a slight chance and being QPR it is unlikely we will pick up the 7 or 9 points needed. However the players I would keep and let go remain the same whether we are in the premiership or championship. With the number of players we have had over the last 4 years it seems strange to say but we really do need an additional 10 to 15 new players. This is probably because we keep buying oldies. Obviously the main difference is if we stay in the premiership we will have much more money, If we go down with possible fair play fines and a possible transfer ban who knows what squad we may be left with.
Hopefully Sandro has a relegation clause in his contract where he would take a significant drop in his wages.
When [not if] we go down, the team that kicks off in August will be unrecognisable from Saturday's line up in my opinion. Those that are out of contract will be offloaded and the rest will be sold assuming there are some willing buyers. Those that think we have any chance of staying up are quite frankly living in denial.
Sorry, but the OP has digs at TF and then implies he keeps bankrolling us (we can buy better than Henry and perhaps keep our loanees). Even if we don't have a transfer embargo, we should have a limited transfer kitty (say half a mill - teams have been built for less) and get shot of anyone that won't renegotiate for less than 20k per week or who has a decent resale value. Keeping Ramsey is key for me - he seems very willing and able to do a job with whatever hand he is dealt and will happily plug squad gaps with youth players. I haven't quite given up on survival but this is the cold hard reality of our predicament.
I'm beginning to think the appointing Ramsey was a mistake, showed his inexperience with both his team selection and tactics on Saturday.
The problem is Tony has bankrolled the wrong players, golden oldie Rio, injury prone Sandros, and Harrys favourites Kranjcar and they are not good enough. Add extending Zamora's contract and his wages. I do agree we shouldn't go mad on the transfer kitty and wages certainly need to be lower. However if we did stay in the premiership you do have to pay more on transfers and wages so its not easy. Not sure about Ramsey I would like to see what he could do with a squad he built rather than inherited.
