If Warnock knew what might be around the corner, it might explain his tactic of trying to keep Snoddy on board till after Xmas to see where we were heading. Also possible he expected finances to be in place a little sooner, hence the hope he would have three or four players signed before going on holidays. Might also be one of the reasons he came in the first place, if Bates had promised investors were going to be brought in. Just a thought
Makes a lot of sense!! Warnock has been unusually quiet and this could be a gagging order whilst the finance deal is done.
A very good question, I had had similar thoughts. More and more I can see the Bates era being the basis for a bloody good film, in the future when people can be persuaded to tell the full story. Love him or hate him, he is an interesting character. Lets hope its made in a few years time, after he has left the club, and it ends with the latest Leeds owners celebrating with the fans our first Champions league victory (Ok, second if you count the one we "won" earlier).
My thoughts exactly. Thought it was strange that he'd agreed to join us in the first place, what with Bates lack of spending and the potential personality clash. The promise of future riches would explain a lot.
No problem with the general premise, but I am concenred with this "keep Snoddy til Christmas and then if we are out of the running..." There is no manager in the world that believes they rae out of the running at Christmas, and if they did, the fans and the club would accuse them of being defeatist. If we were mid-table on New Years' Day and then we sold Snoddy on the 2nd, what would that mean to you? How would you feel? If we were in a relegation battle and we sold Snoddy on 2nd January, what would that mean to you? How would you feel? I know what it would mean to me - we had given up and were going down.
I get the feeling that Warnock was satisfied that cash would be made available early, so that he could make a start. Harvey had a meeting with him the week before the season ended, and this was where Warnock gave him the list of players he wanted to keep, the ones to be released and the players to be listed. I have heard that to balance things no improved offer was to be offered to Clayton, so if he refused it he was to be listed too. Everything went according to plan, and then the Pearce deal was completed. Ward was the next target and agreement had been reached with the Pompy administrators, so Ward travels to Leeds to have a look and see what the deal is. Ward shown around TA by Pearce and as things drag on Ward is getting agitated, but stays for a whole week waiting, and looking for houses with Pearce. Harvey/Bates in the background were trying to renogotiate the deal with Pompy, by only paying so much up front, which is impossible for them to agree. Deal can't be done, so Warnock and Harvey have a big bust up and Warnock wants to know what the hell is going on, as the board understood what he wanted to do and sanctioned it. Warnock is on the verge of leaving, because he's promised the fans the world and the board for some reason are not backing him. By the end of the week Warnock is informed that a potential investor is coming in and to wait until he gets back from holiday before doing anything he may regret ..... So Warnock land back home next Friday and by then he'll either accept what he hears, or he'll walk away. I don't think he'll stay around if its going to be a protraced deal, because he knows he can't wait until the january window to start dealing. he'll be forced to keep many of the listed players, which he knows will be bad. Something will give betwen now and next Friday, as i suspect Warnock will have already been contacted by his agent, with potential clubs that may want him. Funny how this Arab geezer has the gall to mention having Warnock as manager of the championship club he's buying?
I'm not so worried about that guy. If he doesn't have the money to even be in the running to buy us then how's he going to take Warnock away from a (hopefully) newly wealthy Leeds United?
Or it could be because the man is on holiday and while he is the kind of man who can't keep himself away, these tend to be the kind of men who are not interested in anything other than supping a beer in the sun while they are on holiday.
...and you don't think Warnock is a good manipulator? I could convince someone to stay until January under the promise I'll help them out if it's not working out. But when January came around I'd be able to convince them to stay as well. Although in this case because of the horrible situation, I think if by January we're not looking like getting promoted, it'll be because of the bates stranglehold on the club sucking all the life out and no amount of anything will be able to pick us up. If it's not looking like happening by January the club will be in the ****, unless bates ****s off.
One thing is 100% certain, Bates will not use his own money to fund players. He'll take money out and waste money on shyte and see the club go down the pan. No players in and we're relegated with low crowds and fans baying for his blood. Enough is enough and I think he knows it, and if he thought a few hundred fans wanting him out via LUST protests was bad, wait wghile he sees a few thousand banging on his door.
