NEW Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill will have the final say on buying and selling players in the January transfer window. He say's... * Given the title of manager rather than head coach, the 49-year-old has been promised funds to spend in the transfer market and anticipates a busy January.. * "I'm the manager and I know the players I want to get. I won't sign anybody if I don't want to sign them or don't like them and I've already had reassurances to that effect." * "They (the board of directors) are quite happy for me to make those decisions and that is why I've been given the title of manager rather than head coach." * "If they'd made a fuss about it and told me I would have to be called head coach, I would probably still have accepted the job under those terms. However, I would have still wanted to manage the club." * "There is a slight difference between the two, but those who know me will be aware that I'm a manager who can coach rather than a coach who can manage." * Cotterill has reassured the players he inherited that they will all be given a fair crack of the whip." * "Every player will have a price, whether that's Jay (Emmanuel-Thomas) or any other player. If somebody came in and said 'we'll give you a million pound' for a player, I have to think of the business side of things and look after the club." * "I wish the window was open now, because I might spot something we need straight away and, as things stand, I'll have to wait several weeks." * "If I'm given the tools, I'll win the league. But I have to be given the tools." Just to make things clear, now we know.... Bullet Points Only.... http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Bristo...erill-claims/story-20262742-detail/story.html
That's good, but I wonder where the funds have suddenly come from-and lets hope that this time its spent wisely. There are players out of contract at the end of the season, but some of the ones I wouldn't want are staying albeit on lower wages. Frankly, I don't mind who he plays or what title he goes by,as long as we start getting some points on the board and start moving up the table
"If I'm given the tools, I'll win the league. But I have to be given the tools." Confidence.... I like it!
If I was a total optimist rather than a battle weary realist, I would forecast now, that City will make the playoffs this season! PS: I still believe in Father Christmas and fairies at the bottom of the garden.
This is a good point, whether it's confidence or arrogance, at least its something more uplifting than the utter garbage spewing out of SOD's trap. However, I do fear long ball under this man, which will work in this league, but it's just so sh!t to watch.
prepaired to wait and see what he does or offers, one thing for sure he comes over very very passionate, lets hope we can gets some points on the board.
I stand by my prediction at the start of this season I suggested we would have a terrible start, but would rise up the league to in or around the play offs by the end of, and next season we will win Div 1. I didnt forsee SOD leaving though, but apart from that.... I shall be putting a tenner on us to win Div 1 during the pre season (provided we end this season in it. But I am optimistic) Thats a first for Rickster - putting cash on us to win something
Remember, we have to work inside financial restraints, and it does seem that the past year has been scrubbed off as another waste of time direction and money..no mention of the " the way we have been developing for the long term betterment of the club" Its a bit like driving up the motorway the driver knows the destination and decides to go up the M5 onto the M6 south to get to a point north of Spaghetti junction... but he runs out of time at before junction 3 M5 and the next driver takes over, he turns round goes down to the M42 and heads north on the M6 only to run out of time..next driver doesn't like the M6 so takes the side roads.................... etc etc etc
Well there was 3 drivers driving up the M5/M6/M42 to a point north of spaghetti junction but they are all driving all around the place, north, south, up and down and one of them doesn't like motorways so takes to the side roads and they run out of time......etc,etc.........easy,peasy.... John you're a cracker....
But who were the drivers? Was it SOD,Del-boy and Milly I wonder? Or was it most of our defence........
The whole thing is bollocks.... If there was money to be spent, such as from Albert, Davies and co then WHY THE **** did SOD not have a chance to spend it on a better set of players than the dross he brought in ? Things might (note the word might!!!) have been very different had he been able to secure some real quality alongside JET.
My point exactly- Where has this so say money been all season- Were we trying to do things on the cheap then I wonder, or has some new money miraculously appeared?
Or was it SoD doing his normal "they have to be the right people to all play central midfield" But then I will get the defence to hoof it over their heads??
