As well as being an important Premier League fixture for both sides, Monday's match is also the first leg of The 2011-12 Friendship Cup Final. Sunderland are the current holders, but I'm confident that City will take a first leg lead ! I'll never forget that day back in 1985, standing on Old Wembley's concrete terraces with a tear in my eye as Dave Watson lifted The League (Milk) Cup Trophy. It all went sour (pardon the pun!) at the end of the season though as both City AND Sunderland were relegated ! Anyone else on here have memories of the day ? http://www.rokerreport.com/2011/9/21/2438838/sunderland-norwich-friendly-cup? OTBC ...CTID ... ILWT
I was too. Unfortunately. **** ten hour train journey down on the worlds oldest train sat opposite a bloke with the worst teeth in England and breath to match. It was my first visit to Wembley. What a dump it was set in what looked like Beirut to me. Just to top the day off the journey back was even longer. 12 frigging hours... Did I forget to mention the match? Well it was forgettable.
I wasnt there and I wont be there on Monday, Sky for me. Am I a bad person, please abuse me if I deserve it, I can take it
I was there - will never forget the 163 a-side footy match in the car park before the game. Also remember Clive Walker missing a penalty - which I understand was the 1st ever penalty missed in a Wembley Final - what a f*cking cockney pr7ck!!! Game was sh&te - but all fans were very good humoured - the 36 hour drink-a-thon in London helped. Bart
Come on now Bart. You can't knock Clive. Great player to watch especially his hattrick when we beat Man U 3-2 after being two down. I will never forget Brian Robson's face at full time. Priceless.
Yep I was there too unfortunately, my abiding memory ...stuck on the North Circular Road for what seemed ages surrounded my Norwich fans obviously enjoying themselves after the match ...and yes what was Corner doing he should have just conceded his namesake and kicked it into row Z. Isnt hindsight a clever thing.
I remember Chelsea away in the second leg of the semi. That fat **** chasing Walker across the pitch with a seat in his fists. Chelsea fans were very well off in those days as they kept on throwing money at us.
If I close my eyes I can still see walker missing the penalty and here the sickening sound of the ball hitting the post. Had a cracking drink in the Green Man where I was introduced to one Mark Rough.....................
Didn't our coaches get bricked by Millwall fans on the way home. I remember Going to Villa away about the same time, getting clubbed off a pig for getting out of my car for a ***. Strange times they were.
Aye, travelling away was certainly an experience back in the eighties. Our coach got home from Chelsea ok, mind you we didn't **** about after the match. Straight on the bus & away to **** out of that hole.
I was at both semis and the final. It took for ever to get on the tube after the Chelsea match and it was the only time I've been glad to have been kept penned in by the police (given the "welcoming" Chelsea atmosphere). Also remember the "We've been, we lost, we couldn't give a toss - Wemberly" chant after the final!
Yep, I was too. The Chelsea fans were very welcoming. I picked up £5 in loose change they threw at us. I seem to remember a few of them getting a twatting behind the Roker Hotel. In that little street that the back door of the Gluepot bar lead onto. Anyone else recall this?
