Evening all. What a strange season this has been eh? Plenty of downs but their's been a fair share of ups too. So we're going to Wembley for the third time this season, we're also back in Europe (albeit in the Europa Cup). their is a few points I'd like to make really, so first off: Downing Since the Carling Cup final Downing has been a lot better, he looks a lot more confident on the Right and the Left than he did in the first half of the season and has performed well, he hasn't had enough assists or goals but he's surely proved he has enough quality to still be here next season as a squad player at least? Suarez Is he starting to be more clinical? Since he's come back from suspension he has chipped in with a good amount of goals, and despite hitting the woodwork so many times he's still our top scorer with 14 goals with 7 matches still to play. Anywhere near 20 goals without European fixtures isn't a bad return in your first full season at a club eh? Carroll He's improved more and more as the season has gone on in all aspects of his game. 2 Match winners in 2 games but the most important thing for me is that today he actually made intelligent runs in the area. One thing we've all said about him is he never bursts a gut trying to get in to the box but today especially in the second half he looked to get on the end of everything in the box. This is his time to get a good run of goals going from not til the end of the season and go in to next season with a few positives under his belt. A great result today and commiserations to Everton. Bring on Tottenham/Chelsea in the final.
I think generally we were pretty awesome over all today. I did end up shaking my head at a lot though. But its the victory that counts. I am really impressed with Downing. I think he is becoming very important for us. Suarez was awesome, but the stuff with Heithinga was stupid, so he needs to grow up and cut that out. I'm very happy for Carroll. I felt he disappeared after he missed that chance and wasn't getting into the box. But after a few good touches he brightened up and turned it all around.
If Coleman wasn't on a yellow already, he would have been carded. The tackle on Gerrard was a yellow offense. I thought referees were meant to treat each foul irrespective of the time on the clock? Besides that, he had a good game.
I think we start encountering more problems when Referees decide not to send off players incase if ruins the game...if it's a foul, it's a foul. If it's a yellow offence, it's a yellow. What if Everton equalised with a Coleman assist or goal in the final minute? Common sense has a place, like the way he dealt with Suarez/heitinga, but not carding Coleman a second time could just have bite him on the arse.
If Flanno would have been sent off, Doni wouldn't have been. I still maintain that in this game, Coleman being on the pitch despite a second yellow offence could have resulted in an entirely different result. Refs are there to make the game run as they should, not to affect the outcome. His failure to dismiss Coleman could have done so. It's all immaterial I guess now, and he did have a good game overall, but I disagree with you on the Coleman incident and I'm not budging from this view :>
We would both have been going ballistic if that decision had gone in utds favour, I was going mad about it until the goal went in., it could of had a huge influence if the game had gone to extra time.
