http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2242000/Ryan-Shawcross-pledge-future-Stoke.html In an age when loyalty in football is the supposed to be the sole preserve of the supporter, Stoke Cityâs Ryan Shawcross appears to be a throwback to a bygone era. With his contract running towards an end, a lucrative six-year replacement deal is on the table for the Pottersâ centre-half. Surely he could be forgiven therefore, having made the breakthrough into the England squad, if he were to set his sights higher? But Stokeâs captain believes he owes a debt to manager Tony Pulis. And thatâs why he looks certain to tie up his contract before Christmas. âI want to stay and they want to keep me,â he said, âthe talks are on-going. Iâm happy, the club is happy. âBut the main reason I want to stay is the gaffer. Heâs been great to me throughout my time here and made me captain at a young age. 'Iâve told him I want to stay here. âHeâs improved me as a player every year â and he got me into the England squad because that was a goal of mine. âItâs been an issue. But getting a call-up shows a Stoke player can get into the England squad and Iâve been in the last couple now. âI donât want to go â even if a top four club comes in for me â but itâs all down to the people above me now.â Pulis said he has had to âslapâ Shawcross into line from time to time, but the fact the Potters boast the second best defensive record in the Premier League is no fluke.

Maybe Mr Pulis threatened Ryan with a towel in the showers.... From what I heard after Crouch, he's the longest in the changing room!
