Playing Gouffran CM was a stupid idea.

Anita is a good player, he's easily the most intelligent player we have, but he needs someone to do the more aggressive work for him. He needs an enforcer.

Colback is injured, and we can't leave Anita at the back as a lone CDM.

I think we should keep a similar system to how we've been playing recently, and keep Wijnaldum and Sissoko as attacking players, and play Anita and Tiote as a CDM duo.

That's not a fantastically creative CM duo, but it's one that, if drilled properly, could contain the opposition, and make it very difficult for them to move.

We could play it like a 4-2-2-2 system -

    ---------Mitrovic-----Perez--------
    -Wijnaldum----------------Sissoko---
    ------------Anita----Tiote----------
    Mbabu-----Colo--Mbemba------Janmaat
    -------------------Krul-------------

Having Tiote and Anita at the back in a more withdrawn role could give Wijnaldum and Sissoko more freedom to go forward. They'd still have to help out defensively to a degree, but I'd like to see would could happen if Wijnaldum, especially, was giving freedom to roam.

Whatever mclaren does we are doomed he's trying to complete a jigsaw and won't realise (unlike myself months prior) that there are pieces missing.

No point playing so many defenders, they don't do anything!

    --------------mitro--------perez
    ---------------------Sissoko
    Wij-------------------------------------------Thauvin
    ----------------Anita---------Tiote
    ------------Colo------Mbemba----Janmaat

    --------------------------Traffic Cone

He has to play if fit for me, we can not afford to allow Gouffran to start the next 2 games such is the importance that surrounds them. I think the rest of the team picks itself at the moment. Tiote and Anita have proved they can play well together in the past so lets hope this can be the case again.

I think the 3 at the back idea is a terrible idea for us. Not only do we not have players who are used to that sort of formation, but playing Janmaat as a CB would be a waste of his ability.

And the wingers needs to be able to handle being alone in wide areas, which I don't believe anyone in our side is capable of doing.

We don't have the players to make 3 at the back work.

2 goal keepers and 5 strikers, the other 4 can play diamond shapes somewhere on the pitch, maybe run after the ball a bit as well.

I don't believe that's fair seeing as we kept a clean sheet at old trafford, were unlucky to concede vs Arsenal, and defended well vs Chelsea, who needed a wonder goal from Ramires, and Willian's new found ability to score freekicks.

We seem to have spells of excellent defending, then our heads just go out of the window.

With regards your OP if, IF we can get the no nonsense no frills destroyer Tiote who will win the ball and give it to a footballer then I'd say yes.
If we get the pirouetting idiot who thinks he's Messi and who is a liability then absolutely not!
As it happens I don't wish to see Sissoko or Colo in the team ever again but, especially in Colo's case, needs must.

An on form Tiote and Anita could be pretty useful.

I would try a midfield trio of Gini, Tiote and Anita with a forward 3 of Mitrovic, Perez and thauvin/Aaron's.

    Being fair? This is fair:

Man Utd game: They had one striker on their books, Wayne Clump Rooney. He's been abysmal for 2 years! He couldn't score in his favourite nursing home right now (and you said they could win the league <laugh>). Celebrating a clean sheet against those toothless ****s is akin to celebrating not being beaten up by a daddy long legs....

Chelsea: Are you kidding? Have you actually seen them play this year? We played them at a great time and still ****ed it up with **** defending!

Arsenal: biggest laugh of all. They absolutely bummed us backwards... We have one unbelievably lucky 1-0 escape and you hail it great defending?! A couple of last ditch blocks aside, we're fortunate they weren't more clinical!!!

I'd certainly play Tiote ahead of Gouffran but one player who shouldn't be near the team is Colo. Can't get up, easily outran, his marking of opposing CF is woeful as they constantly leave him marking zilch.

He is okay at distributing the ball but the rest of his play is mostly poor. He (and Colback) allows opposition players to run past him like he's not there and he lacks urgency when closing down. As a defensive midfielder he is fairly poor IMHO. If he plays next to Tiote (who has to start the next game as there is no other credible option) then he has more emphasis on him to go forward, but he's fairly ****e at that too. I would start with Tiote and Wijnaldum in CM personally. I think that's a good blend of defence and attack in the middle of the park.

Evidence of this season says otherwise. Young Mbabu has done better than Haidara. And he is a 20yr old right footed right back/centre half <laugh> He's cack, swallow your pride and we can forget you ever suggested he and Colo were good enough.

I never said Colo was!! As for Haidara, I said he has potential - just fecked up his speed of progress due to 3 years of ****e coaching, tactics and McManaman!

Anita is a useful versatile player. His reading of the play is good, and he's good at keeping and distrusting the ball, he just isn't an enforcer. He doesn't have enough presence on his own, he needs someone next to him.
