So what if hes the captain?

So what if he scores goals?

He doesnt do much else other than score, have any of you who rate him even watched a game???? he rarely plays a pass forward and often spoils the flow of atticking moves, hes got zero pace, he does try hard but his tackling is average also.

I think tiote, barton and caybe should be ahead of him.

If nolan does play he should be a cover option or as a second striker...

Depends on who we sign. If we don't sign any goalscorers then Nolan is a must imo

EDIT: Thought I'd point out I agree with what you're saying though, he's slow, passing isn't the best, just seems to be anonymous for most of the game bar when he scores.

What makes you think Cabaye should walk into the team ahead of Nolan? He needs to earn his place.

the old "earn his place" is a tired philsophy imo, last season we could have picked up more points if houghton had played tiote and ben arfa sooner instead of sitting on his hands and waiting for them to "earn their spot"

especially tiote instead of alan smith, ergh i hope smith leaves, hes nicky butt mark 2.

Depends, if Cabayes better than him then yeh but you have to remember what Nolan can bring to the team because it can be invalueble

I completely agree mate and I've been saying this for a while now.

Apart from his great goal scoring ability he offers nothing else going forward or defensively, its just I'm not sure how the team would cope without his leadership on the pitch, there was times during the season that Nolan alone has dragged those sorry bastards forward and got us cheeky draws and wins because of it.

On ability he would not be in my starting lineup, but I think what Pardew needs to decide is if the team spirit on the pitch would be good enough without him.

How about we use him as a different kind of impact sub, not one to change the game but one that lifts the whole team and drags them through like you said (if he does start on the bench)

    Agree! Spot on!

To be honest, Nolan's passion, fight, leadership, commitment & dedication is top class but IMO he's a average CM grafter who YES has very good finishing abilities & is our current biggest threat in the box BUT apart from that he offers no creativity, passing is very questionable, lacks pace, no technical ability & he simply doesn't have enough stamina to last a whole PL game. Saying all this.. I'll keep him as back-up/competition this season, then next summer we might consider reasonable offers for him.

Im not saying nolan is completely terrible and should never be used im just saying he shouldnt start games...as an impact player with his energy levels he would probably agree himself he would be more effective.

I would definitely want to be keeping him, maybe even as an impact sub or used in behind the striker, I have said I dont rate his general ability but still feel like a small part of me would die if he left, would hate seeing him in another teams colours.

Its a bit like a lass you've broke up with, dont want her but dont want her to be with anyone else ha!

I hate it how people don't rate Nolan. Seriously, I think how much everyone praises him goes to show how integral he is. He organises the entire effing team and scored 12 goals last season (yes, nearly a 1 in 2 record, from midfield). Yet people want Cabaye ahead of him. I also love how you ask if anyone has watched Nolan yet say you want Cabaye. How many games of his have you watched of his? 1? If that?

Passing the ball around doesn't win games. Scoring goals does. Having too many creative players and nobody able to finish is ridiculous. Either have 5 players that create 200 chances a season and score 20 or have 3 creative players and Nolan and create 120 chances a season, but score 30. I know what I'd rather have

Impossible to say... Entire courses of games could have been changed without him playing, we could have even finished higher, its impossible to tell.

I agree that what Nolan does for the team is very important but i'd just like to point out that hopefully we won't be relying on his goals as much as last year as we may actually have strikers that can finsh for next year

Yes, I've actually seen Lille games(towards the end of the season) where Cabaye has shown that his current ability is TWICE that of Kevin Nolan who YES is a very good finisher, leader & is known to be a inspirational figure in the dressing room but he's lack of technical ability is there for everyone to see. His passing is very questionable & average(the opposite of Cabaye), his lack of pace, his lack of creativity(again the opposite of Cabaye), his defensive ability is also questionable, his stamina & fitness levels are also questionable & FINALLY I don't rate him that highly. Credit where credit is due though, he's a very good finisher & is our current BIGGEST goal threat in the box but with two/one quality strikers then I think a Cabaye/Barton - Tiote partnership will improve the team's quality dramatically.
