We should take the positives and recognise just how much we dominated that game for long spells, but just couldn't find a finishing touch. A lot of players look worn out, and even though I could harshly critique certain players I'm not going to. Half the squad look half fit. Joelinton and Willock have been our rock but they are both worn out and are in desperate need of rest. We've had a fantastic 2022, and the players are probably just starting to feel the pace. Ratings - Dubz - 7 - Could do nothing about the goal. Good commanding of the box. Krafth - 7 - Good Schar - 7 - Wasted shots, but good defending Burn - 6 - I feel sorry for him. Another game where he was almost completely solid, but his error led to a goal. I don't know why he decided to do what Lascelles often did and fly out of his position. Targett - 7,5 - Great game. Good deliveries and good defending for the most part. Willock - 5 - Good work rate, but not great overall. Worst game for a while. Bruno - 8 - MOTM - Great passing, good composure on the ball and some excellent defending at times. Looks like a great potential in the CDM role. Joelinton - 6 - I'll give him a 6 for his work rate, but he's not fully fit. Neither he or Joe Willock were fit tonight. Fraser - 7 - Good work rate and attacking play Wood - 5 ok Almiron - 5.5 - Some decent moments, but I wouldn't have played him. ASM - N/A - Should have started really. I don't understand what eddies thinking is bringing him on late. We should have started him while we were going 100% at everton in the first half, and then brung him off later on. Also he probably isn't fully fit. Critique him all you want, but he wasn't to blame for much tonight. He just didn't have enough time to make impact.
I don’t think being personal is the way here matey. His opinion is as valid as anyones and for what it’s worth Wood was poor tonight. I’d say a 4 but I can see why Roly would go in for the 2.
I think the disappointment for me stems from the reappearance of the ghost of Newcastle Past after having such a good run but like has been said before I was convinced we were going down around Christmas time so im very happy with how we have done since then. Though I am desperate for Everton to go down too.
Don't agree on almiron it's like people don't count tackling.. He was involved and our only threat going fwd outside corners and freekick. Played some nice 1 2s 1st half and was getting in behind. Nobody else managed to. It was 0-0 in this and the last game until he went off. 7 for me Max was on 30 mins gave the ball away several times, fell over and did nothing 5
9 games to go and 9 points clear. I think the loss so late given the circumstances is just hard to take. Miggy did well. I think he was unlucky to go off. A lot of people are blaming Burn for the goal but look at Dubz positioning. The shot wasn’t in the corner.
Dubs wasn't to blame lol.. Max was trying to be clever as usual and got shoved off the ball.. He could've just passed it straight back, but he was trying to take on the entire team again... Then burn got done by iwobi.
Oh don’t get me wrong. Max lost the ball in a bad area when we where moving up. So that initiated the counter attack and we didn’t recover. I am just saying if Dubz was positioned properly he would have saved the shot. That’s all.
Either way we lost and it was a reminder that this side has been riding its luck. I think people were getting carried away with results and ignoring the fact the side was just grinding results out. It looks like we'll stay up, so who cares really? The mission is stay up then go from there. Everton? People definitely got sucked into thinking newcastle were significantly better than them and were completely ignorant of how tough Goodison is on a night time under those kind of circumstances. We got beat by a side fighting for it's existence and tbh fair play to them because they deserved to win... Newcastle didnt have the stomach for that
True. And as I say. We are 9 points clear of 3rd bottom right now. With 9 games to go. So we have still done remarkably well to get where we are. Honestly think we only need 7 more points.
That's it it was a painful one and I think partly because we wanted to relegate Everton I have to say I don't see Everton going down.. Away from home they're a sifter touch, but I've been watching and at home they're much more competitive. It's a really tough place to play.. Loads of players past and present confirm this. I was surprised people were overlooking that fact.
Manner of defeat and performance for me, mate. Pressing dropped, we went all Bruce-ish after the sending off and the same issues - useless play up front, individual mistake at the back - just dredged up the old Newcastle and it’s unpleasant. Almiron didn’t need to be hooked first. Fraser was more anonymous. We also probably needed to change Willock. I’d have even been tempted to change Wood, maybe throw Willlock up front for the final half an hour and throw Longstaff into midfield or something. Wood was so bad it felt like his own team gave up on him, crosses stopped, balls into him stopped. Anyway I’m glad of the break. I am actually far more confident of getting something against Spurs than I was of Everton. And again we’ve gone toe to toe at a difficult ground, with some absolutely **** players! Time to rest and breathe, come back to get the two wins needed. We might lose a good few more yet but with Norwich, Burnley, Palace and more those 6/7 points are achievable. Watford, Norwich and Burnley have a long way to go.
