Not in the Biblical sense; that would be a mistake.

Amanda has been invited and she's invited me to go with her. I must admit it is very tempting. Is anyone else going from here and, if so, would it be possible to meet up?

I've been to five Arcs, it's sure to be a fantastic weekend.
Be aware the course is some distance from the city centre (as you would expect) and public transport out there isn't great (seem to remember a long walk from the metro station to the course).
If you can book cabs to take you/pick you up.
    Enjoy !

I'm jealous. I would love to go this year but just don't have the time. I'm sure it will be worth it. And, as others have said, lots of pictures please!

But the walk through the Bois de Boulogne is the best way. Just give yourself enough time: very pleasant. (If you've done your conkers at the races you can pick some up on the way back).

And don't leave your seat (without it being defended), someone will nick it. They go racing once a year and think it's their God-given right to take any seat that's free for 1 second.

Ron, I would imagine that if you are a guest of somebody with tickets, they will be tickets for the “members enclosure”, which is a corporate hospitality area next to the parade ring, rather than general admission (most of the track).

Getting to the track can be done various ways. Be warned that the traffic around the track is very congested on Arc day and the car park is on the infield if driving.

If using public transport, there are a couple of options. On Arc day, they run free shuttle buses from a couple of Metro stations – Porte d’Auteuil (Line 10) and Porte Maillot (Line 1). There can be quite a queue for return buses after racing. Walking from Porte d’Auteuil (passing Roland Garros tennis arena) takes about forty minutes if you walk quickly.

The nearest public transport option to Longchamp is about a mile away across the River Seine. From Gare St Lazare, take a Transilien train to Suresnes Mont Valérien (Eur2.45). Out of the station turn left then immediately right and go downhill. At the bottom of the hill follow the road to the right and then round to the left. Cross the Pont de Suresnes over the river and then cross the road bridge and take the footpath to the right towards the pond. Beyond the pond is the racecourse entrance.
