Now that Gosling is finally fit I would love to see him force his way into our starting 11.

    http://www.nufcblog.com/2011/09/15/gosling-just-itching-for-first-team-opportunity/

Most of us are calling for Pardew to play 5 across the midfield on Saturday and I think that it wouldn't be a bad decision to play the lad. I know that he had a bit of a shocker against Scunthorpe but no-one played well that night (apart from sammi).

Not only does he offer us another hardworking body in the midfield, but he can also be a threat going forward. We need to get the ball down and keep hold of the bloody thing and I feel that he would offer Cabaye and Tiote the outlet that they so badly needed on Monday night.

Villa have a strong midfield and it is vital that we stop the supply to Darren Bent, so by including Gosling in the midfield it would also help Cabaye and Tiote in our defensive responsibilities.

So maybe we should replace Obertan with Marveaux and drop Shola in favour of Gosling. Obviously we all want Santon to start, and although I am never confident when going to Villa, I feel that these 3 changes could bring us the result that we want.

I'd like to try Marveaux in the attacking midfield role first, I see Gosling as an industrious, box-to-box CM, who'll get loads of chances this season given how often Cabaye and Tiote get booked.

Playing a 4-5-1 would leave Best up front on his own and I can't see Gosling playing effectively in the ACM role.

It's been suggested in another thread playing Marveaux just behind Best in a 4-4-1-1 which could work better.

I'm not adverse to having Obertan play behind Best either and have Marveaux on the right hand side so that Obertan can use his pace through the centre to get balls played behind the defence.

I'd put him in ahead of Tiote this weekend.

I like the look of this for Villa. Hard to break down, think my only tweak would be to go with Marveaux on the wing instead of Obertan. Use Obertan as an impact player, through the middle, late on. His speed would trouble the slow/ageing legs of Dunne and Collins!!!

Yeah, it was a toss up for me between Obertan and Marveaux. I know a lot of people said Obertan did well on Monday, and I only saw the game on TV, but I wasn't that impressed. I never thought anything was ever going to come from him end product wise. He looked better when he drifted more into CAM on a couple of occasions. But the Marveaux is still building up fitness so it's a tough one.

I thought the same,he was ok but nothing spectacular, needs to hug the touchline more if he is going to play as a winger in order to beat the last man and create chances. Seeing the game on TV is better for judging a players performance than actually being there IMO.

It varies for me tbh. I'm more impressed with someone like Jonas when I see him at a match. And I never truly appreciated how good Tiote was until I saw him live last season.

"Dan played in the Newcastle Reserve team that hammered Norwich City 8-0 on Tuesday afternoon"

Undercuts the credibility of the article a bit

I like this. Gosling gets forward well, but also knows how to go back and defend. Tiote could cover the defence pretty much on his own while we're attacking, while others come back and help. I hope Santon can be like Enrique and strike up a decent partnership with Jonas on the wing too. And I think Best will get a goal at the weekend <ok>.

I think he can be really good for us, but obviously we have a lot of competition in the midfield at the moment so he will have to wait for his chance.

451 with gosling in the barton type role and obertan playing an attacking role. Marveux isn't ready to be a regular starter for us.

After 2 goals & MOTM in the resies, Pardew says Dan Gosling will have the next 3 games to try and nail down a 1st team place #nufc
