Being back in the top flight only to see race issues occupy the headlines every week is really depressing (yes more depressing than just one win). I hope this weekend all the talk will be about the football rather than the issues that have been dominating the headlines just recently. But, I've got a feeling the next chapter is waiting in the wings, sadly. I don't think Fergie has helped by backing Clattenburg. To me, thats just lubing up the officials & having a little pop at Chelsea for his own benefit. Whether they are right or wrong, he shouldn't be commenting on it at this stage, tacky to say the least. I wonder what kind treatment they are in for at home to Arsenal tomorrow, extra couple of minutes, Ashly dive converted to a pen? Hmm suit you sir.
Of course Sky want more and more controversy , they love it ? Breaking News Fergie comments on something that has nothing to do with him anymore , they love it .
That they do. Like someone said the other day, you had to get through six pages of crap before you could find the football last weekend in the sports pages.
Its a joke , the most annoying thing is for the 1500 kick offs or lack off , there should be at least 6 1500 kick offs every Saturday , I know about the Thursday European games but they could be sorted out surely , the other 3 games would be the Sat night and the 2 Sunday .
I hope so too HR. I still get this strange feeling that one day Sky will do away with that running around on the green stuff kicking the white thing around and Match of the Day will just be an hour long package of the latest who said what. As a journalist in the Guardian noted on the Clattenberg-Chelsea case, "it is a divisive, complex matter and what it does not need is knee-jerk judgment from people professing to know more than they do". So thanks to Sir Alex. I really hope the matter can be decided soon (ie days) and we can all get back to talking about who shook who's hand again.
Looks like you're missing the sarcasm in my comment there. Unless of course you did recognize it and in turn responded with more sarcasm, in which case touché.
Anything can be paraphrased by the media to make it contentious. Nothing is black or white in race nor tabloid.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20184456 Well, 20 minutes after the thread was started the first case drops to the kitchen floor. Now, reluctantly I wait for the next. Its surely in the post, might as well embrace it.
Without the controversy, we'd have nothing to talk about! Apart from the "who's really picking the team?" conspiracy theories of course, and frankly I prefer controversy to that...
I'm sorry, but I really dislike that logic. It's similar to the whole "Oh we can't get have goal line technology because human error is part of the game and helps give something to talk about!" which I just stupid considering the financial implications of such decisions and likewise the controversy caused by players being dicks or referees being incompetent has implications financially and morally, making football seem a giant cesspool of all the worst aspects of human nature. Luckily, you hear of stories like Farnborough fans joining in the chants with Truro City in a show of solidarity to (slightly) restore my faith in football. Oh and that picture of the Liverpool and Everton mascots, wearing the numbers 9 and 6, hand in hand. And that banner which captured that image which says "Solidarity has no colours." That was a really nice gesture.
Unfortunately the media will see to it that the population is not left without football controversey to rage over. Reading this piece, who would know if Davids or Cruff's version of their row is the correct one - as always the context etc is debatable. And why is Davids coming up with this story now, just because its currently fashionable ? If every word spoken within football, on & off the pitch, is being analysed to the enth degree and then inquries being held into every contensious conversation then we are going to need a 100% perfect human race before we are free of such controversies - not goin to happen is it, unless the humans are substituted for robots.
And why is Davids coming up with this story now, just because its currently fashionable ? _______________________________________________________ Did wonder that myself.
I was just thinking about this the other day . I was REALLY looking forwards to this year in the Premiership , and I hope we stay up for the money it will bring this club . BUT If the TV money was spread more evenly and / Or we had owners who genuinely loved this club for the LONG TERM ( have my doubts about ML's Reasosn and now NC'S but that is PURELY me probably being paranoid ) then give me back the championship and hopefully ALL games being at 3pm on a saturday . . There are SOOO many ****ing ego's in the PL it is simply stunning and saddening IMHO .
