its looking more and more like the most ridiculous, bung-induced decision in the history of football isn't it?

We should pull out of it and hold our own world cup.

I've read nothing positive about Qatar and some of the negatives are truly disgusting.

Sepp Blatter believes there is still time to switch the 2022 World Cup to winter

He said: "We still have enough time.

"The executive committee will certainly follow my proposal. Then we will have dealt with the topic for good."

Sounds like a very fair committee decision to me! <whistle>

....see my post on the 'biggest c--t in football' thread, this article explains my choice!

I would agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that Rooney will only be 36 and still at his physical peak.

Wow - I didn't even know they were doing that. Actually going to court to try to rinse more money out of "the people's game"...Pathetic.

We think the FA's bad but Jesus Christ the higher up the ladder you go the worse it gets. The corruption and idiocy at UEFA and FIFA is sometimes breath-taking.

The trouble is that they must know what they look like and just do not give a single ****.

You know one thought that's crossed my mind: If they're due to play in unprecedented and potentially dangerous heat (and we'll get a LOT of hype about that) then wouldn't it be oh-so reasonable for FIFA, after much serious and balanced debate, to introduce quarters into the game instead of halves. Oh whoops! Did safety concerns accidentally increase our advertising revenues by hundreds of millions of pounds? Fancy that!

I'm far more concerned about the exploitation of migrant workers building their stadiums. Some of the things you hear are horrific, essentially slave driving.

I would seriously love some of the national FAs to tell FIFA "They bid for a summer World Cup, they are due to host a summer World Cup. Our leagues will continue".

If it's not too late to move the whole thing why not just move the place rather than the time of year? Is it too late to realise that, in the same way you can't hold the Winter Olympics in Eastbourne, you can't hold a World Cup in the middle of the searing-hot desert? Sorry Qatar but you're just not a suitable venue and should never have been considered.

I cannot decide who is more abhorrent, Blatter or Platini> The latter amazes me, you'd think the Frenchman who has reached the pinnacle of the game as a player, may have an affinity with the game, but no, only his bank balance.

Yes, it's amazing sometimes, isn't it? I mean the " persuasive power" of obscene amounts of wonga. Out of nowhere, FIFA could clearly see, that what was patently madness to the rest of the world, was in fact, not only workable, but a bloody good idea too! <doh>

    Qatar:

Forced labour, prostitution, human trafficking, confiscated passports and travel documents, detention, sexual assult - all seen as normal for the immigrant work force

    Death penalty

No LGBT rights. Five years prison for men.

15 years ago their "level of freedom" was at seven, the lowest level. Last year it was six. Pretty much all countries in Western Europe are rated at one, the highest.

But, they have money, so none of the above matters.

  15. Blatter is a latter-day Blair.

Well, I suppose that Blatter does have the advantage of not being a war-criminal.

But that's the only difference I can see.

Power and the accumulation of wealth overwhelms what ever principles a man may have started out with.

Of course, it always helps if you start out with very few, or none at all, in the first place!..

From Blatter and Platini's POV, the world cup in Qatar is one hell of a trick. They get the money and it's football that gets screwed.

I am astonished to hear that it is hot in a desert during summer. Surely this information should have been available during the original bidding process? I see a conspiracy here to keep this away from those highly intelligent bidders that would otherwise would surely never have agreed to now what seems a ludicrous concept of playing football at that time of year! Obviously though, now the tournament is going to be in winter the terms have changed completely so the bidding process needs to be restarted. Goodness, if they just use one vote as acceptance of something quite different it's almost as bad as voting for a party at a general election and then finding your vote is assumed to also be for some kind of coalition that you had no idea about at the time you cast it!
