Firstly let me apologise for any typos or grammatical errors in the following piece; am a little the worse for wear after todayâs magnificent performance. What a week it has been, one that was billed as the most challenging we have faced since that glorious play off final day; but it has been a week that has filled me with pride. We played three top sides; shouldâve got something out of the Man City game, outplayed Brendaâs pool in their backyard and saved the best till last with a majestic performance against the European champions! And to cap it all, I have a new âfirstâ to put on my CV â this week I lied on national radio! As most of you will know by now I co-produce the unofficial âA Touch Far Vetchedâ SCFC fanzine. Due to work commitments I was unable to travel to Anfield to witness our beloved Swans put one over Brendaâs new charges in a well deserved hammering, but managed to watch the match online. My online viewing was made all the more enjoyable by the fact that I had stocked up on alcoholic beverages, most of which were consumed well before the final whistle was blown. But no worries, I had a day off Thursday so was looking forward to a lie in. The lie in was denied by a phone call at 8.10am from Radio Wales asking if I could come in for an interview on the morning show to give a Swansea fans view on the magnificent Capitol One victory over the scousers! âOf courseâ I said, when do you want me to do it; âIn half an hourâ came the reply! So I dragged myself from my bed and had to do a quick march to the BBC building in Alexandra Road for a âremoteâ interview. 30 minutes later I found myself sat in front of a microphone, with headphones on and a banging headache, anticipating a gentle introduction to the interview and a briefing on what questions to expect! All I got was âyouâre on nextâ and then a chirpy âOllyâ asking me what time I got back from the game! In my defence I must say that I donât like lying, but I was live on national radio and felt that I would I have looked like a total tool if I had said âsorry I wasnât at the gameâ⦠so I lied and said âearly hours Olly, canât remember the exact time, it was all a bit of a blurâ. I was then asked to give my views on the victory, and a summary of the game, at which point I silently thanked the Lord, and VIP box, that I had managed to get a feed for the match, went into auto-pilot, and rambled on about team spirit, the added attacking ethos that Laudrup had brought to our game, and how wonderful it was to be a Jack! Olly then tried to get controversial; asking if everyone was happy with the mighty Laudrup; were the players happy with him? Was the main ambition to put one over an ex manager etc, etc. Have subsequently listened to the interview and am pleased to say that I was both lucid and diplomatic and, most pleasing of all, disappointed âOllyâ by offering no controversial opinions concerning unrest in the squad or unhappiness with the manager! All this with the hangover from hell â was quite pleased with myself! The interview is still available on I-Player; BBC Radio Wales, Thursday at 8.40am.
