... I will be a lone voice and that I will get a load of abuse but on that performance I dont think Jewell deserves to lose his job. There is still work to be done but it was 1 poor tackle and a moment of individual stupidity by Martin that cost us the game today. Martin was actually impressive today but him trying to be clever when on his line was just unacceptable at this level. Bowyer in the middle had his best game and Sonko's safety first approach was definately a positive. Scotland is half the size and twice the player he was last season and Cresswell is also continuing to impress. I know no-one will agree but I think Andrews is getting worse and worse. He scores goals but his general play and his passing especially is hit and miss at best. Chopra is not doing enough to be a certain starter and Edwards is a liability at full back. Personally I would start Carson over Murphy but DM hasnt been awful, Im just not a fan. 2 individual mistakes has cost us 4 points in the last two home games and although performances havent been brilliant in either and there is still a way to go, I feel that we can see a team that isnt as bad as results would suggest Let the insults begin!
i agree tractorbhoy, he should stay, but probably for all the wrong reasons from your point of view! in all seriousness, what on earth is going on at portman road? watford are a very, very poor side from what i've seen - should be nailed on for bottom three with their novice manager, lack of funds, lack of talent and poor, hoofball tactics. you may have played better today and even been a tad unlucky but losing to watford, and at home, is a massive fail. i'd be surprised if he gets to january to be honest...
I agree totally Supers The performance may have been an improvement but that's not saying much is it! How low have we sunk when we lose against a **** team like Watford and praise the players for an improved performance! All I would say is that I wish some of our supporters woudl just wake up and smell the coffee. Relegation is a certainty with this clueless idiot in charge. The same old excuses week after week and nothing changes. I won't be going back to Portman Road until this guy is sacked and judging by the attendance figure today, nor will many others!
Not making any excuses but I wouldnt call Watford a bad team actually. I think they have got some very good players and will have a fairly good season and dont expect them to be in a relegation battle. If we put in performances like Burnley again then he will deserve to go and there can be no arguments but getting rid due to a player being cocky on his own goal line would imo be harsh. JWM, if you chose not to go again thats down to you but can I ask what part of todays plan did you think Jewell messed up on? I think with the players we currently have available we put out a back to basics team that done pretty much what was required. Obviously we didnt get the points but we looked stronger, we have more of a shape, we had options and defensively we looked controlled. We had round pegs in round holes and although it wasnt confident performance it had glimpses of potential that I havent seen for weeks. Dont get me wrong we are not suddenly a good team, we have many areas where we need to improve and although we looked stronger at the back the goals were again down to errors rather than being outplayed but i feel better after todays game than I did a week ago. Whoever is manager in January needs to get a right back in and I would suggest a cm to partner Bowyer.
I'd say sour grapes, but even Norwich are getting in on the act. Must be something in the water around Norfolk n Suffolk. On paper it's easy to say "Oh look at our players we should win"...and to be fair you have some big names....but end of the day we have a good team and if it's underrated or not that's not our problem
in fairness madmoose, i have only seen watford the once live (other than highlights of course) this season but you were absolutely dreadful. i think you played forest?! either way, when you check out how much money the ipswich players earn per week compared to watford i would say they really should be able to beat watford. i know for a fact many of your fans hate the way your team play under dyche and think he is completely out of his depth. i'm glad you won though!
I agree once again with you tractorbhoy, although I'm not sure I would say Jewell doesn't deserve to loose his job because results wise, really he definitely does but I'm certainly don't think he should loose his job. I heard graham taylor say when mentioning the Ipswich result, saying hopefully ME will do the right thing and back PJ, as he's a good manager and I'm sure he can turn it around(unless he's a closet Norwich supporter). I think he's a decent manager, who's done well whilst he's been here in certain areas and I feel he knows what needs to be done, lets face it any manager who came in would of had an extremely tough task this season. I have confidence in him, in the long term even if the short term I'm not so sure, I just don't feel a new manager would put us any further forward. But if we have more performances like the one against Burnley PJ should get the sack. Where did andrews play today, still the higher CM? I don't blame you JWM for not going to any more matches, its clearly not good for you, I certainly would not consider going atm unless I got a free ticket, then I still wouldn't be sure!!! I said the same thing when Keane was in charge, what's the point in spending all that money when your just going to go and get depressed.
It was against Middlesbrough away....and they scored an offside goal. They are near the top and we should have walked away with a draw....you can't really criticise that. Think you're wrong about "bigger paychecks meaning they should win"......? You'd think better players would get paid more in a perfect world....but there's no such thing. We don't pay a lot because we cannot afford to....and what has usually helped us when our money runs dry is our excellent youth academy. Finally....I have not met one Watford fan who has spoken of Dyche in the way you just said, or as harshly of how we play....as if we play bad or something? I have seen us play bad football....we're not Barcelona but there's worse. To be honest I think you have Watford mixed up with Blackburn or something....I know Dyche is bald too but cmon
I don't think it's fair to say that we hate the way we play. After a solid if unspectacular start, we're now playing as close to how we did under Malky Mackay as can be expected without Danny Graham leading the line. And as poor as we were against Forest (which was very embarrasing, because we were one of those teams that had been playing better than results suggested up to that point), truly poor teams tend to be the ones that ship five or more goals against newly promoted sides.
I'll be honest didn't read much of the article, but as much as I am one to back players and give them a chance, it is players like Martin that will get us nowhere near top 6 and cost us a lot of money, when season after season we see teams signing far better talents for a tenth of the price! Again, no offence to Lee but he is just another example of where our club is going so very wrong!
This is a link from the BBC gossip section: http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/287747/Steve-Bruce-linked-with-Ipswich "STEVE BRUCE could be set for a happy New Year, despite his sacking by Sunderland. The Geordie, fired at the Stadium Of Light only days ago, is already being eyed by Ipswich as a potential replacement for under-fire Paul Jewell. And if the Championship strugglers’ slump continues up to Christmas, Portman Road insiders say Bruce could be handed the reins just in time for the opening of the January transfer window." Steve Bruce would underwhelm me, but perhaps I'm being unfair??? If they're going to make a change, for the sake of spam do it asap and don't fanny about for another month of straight defeats and keystone kops defending.
Not a wind up (for once) Jonah, but just supposing this did happen, how would an Ex Canary be received at Portaloo Road as manager ? I don't think that another journeyman manager is what you need that's for sure. I think that your board would do well to follow the example of ours and look to an up and coming hungry young guy instead. As I say, not a wind up, just an opinion. OTBC ILWT CTID
Stop using the term “Portaloo” (which doesn’t work on any level, not that Norwich types would ever notice) and people might answer you.
Don't be so touchy Jonah, cos you've never used the term 'Budgies' I suppose ? I don't like Ipswich and I've never made any secret of it. In fact, it was instilled into me by my father that "tho' shalt despise Ipswich with as much passion as your love for the City". As I grew up, I called this into question many times (especially as my bro'-in-law is a Binner), but my feelings never change cos of arseholes with a holier than tho' attitude like you. I can see by your posts that your feelings are the complete reverse, fair enough, but don't be such an obnoxious git it just fuels the fire. You may find it hard to believe, but as much as it pains me to say it, I do actually have respect for what Town have achieved in the past because we all know that a provincial club will never win the top division again. Now we can go on trading insults if you like, that's fine by me but how about we just rise above the 'Portaloos' and 'Budgies' business and have a laugh about it ?
I post this here despite the thread being taken over by Norwich trolls: I’ve just been having a look at Steve Bruce’s managerial shenanigans. It goes: Sheffield Utd – In charge for one season and did pretty well. Resigned due to “turmoil in the boardroom”. Huddersfield – 1st season just missed out on the play-offs. Shocking start to the next season, sacked in October. Wigan – Resigned after 2 months! Crystal Palace – got off to a good start but resigned after 3 months!!! At this point the Wiki page contends “by now he had acquired a reputation as a manager who rarely held down a job for a significant length of time”! Birmingham – 1st season took them over in mid-table and took them to the play-offs & promotion. 2nd season finished mid-table in the Prem’. 3rd season 10th. 4th season (I think) 12th. Relegated next season but got them back up again. Early during the next Prem’ season he was poached by Wigan(!). Wigan – kept them up in first season. 2nd season finished 11th, after which he was poached by Sunderland. Sunderland – 1st season 14th (Prem’. 2nd season 10th. 3rd season sacked. Patchy - but better than Jewells record, on the whole.
I like Bruce but not really my cup of tea as a manager. I think he's pretty average and tbh suits the clubs like Birmingham and Sunderland, as both are soild clubs but never really light up the league and they're not really clubs you'd like to go and watch. Its strange but I think I'd be more confident in Bruce stabilising us in the short term than Jewell but in the long term I just feel Jewell could take us further. Not top of my list, a big name manager, would much prefer someone like Dave Jones or Darren Ferguson(who has also been mentioned) if Jewell was to get the sack.
