We were robbed today in every sense. We showed a lot of fight and looked comfortable at 1-0 and 11 v 11. There have been many poor performances in recent weeks and missed opportunities but today wasn't one of them. It'll do us good to have a change of scene with a cup game and then hopefully resume the league off the back of a win with a couple of new faces. People will be calling for Warnock's head and lambasting the team, that's inevitable, but I hope as many of us as possible keep backing him.
People forget Warnock was only able to put this team together in two weeks compared to other managers who had 3 months. This is a bad run of form which was bound to happen at some point this season. We've got January to get in some quality before Feb/March when our season will be decided. Lets not forget how far he's taken us. Without him we could've been relegated to League 1 and now we're in the Premiership. That said...it was a bloody weird decision to take off Taarabt. Still, we all make mistakes.
I think it's understandable, for all the great work that he did previously at the moment it's not good enough & we're heading in one direction back to the Championship. The tactics are completely baffling - why the hell do we only play one striker at home? Unless there's a change in performance/results in the next few weeks then there'll be more than few calling for NW's head.
Definitley think NW is getting it wrong at the moment but a change in manager now would probably do more harm than good, just got to hope we get some quality in, in this transfer window. On the plus side of things, SWP looked better than he's done since his debut against Newcastle.
it is not the time now to change manager, as has already been said. keep backing NW. it might be worth noting that before today (in which we were genuinely unlucky), 3 of the last 4 defeats have come against liverpool, man utd & arsenal. did we expect anything from those games?
let's put this into the mix.....When NW took over, we were almost relegated from the Championship and he managed to get the players performing. he has yet to have a prolonged bad spell with us until last 8 games or so, however, included in this were games against Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool - games I would not have expected to take many points from. Ferdinand has suffered more than anyone since the jt comment (still to be dealt with in court), and At has not performed as well as he should have. that said, if I was paid £80k a week, (and came with baggage which I wanted to lose)I would at least try to ensure that when selected for my team, I would use my brains and try to stay on the pitch rather than get caught up in an incident which has cost us dearly. NW will get it right, as will TF. I would have been happy with a 17th place finish back in August, and will be happy with one in May. NW at least deserves this season to prove he has what it takes........
lets not kid ourselves, the last thing we need is a change of manager..are our memories that short? The reason we are struggling is were trying to play catch up after flav and bernie held back transfer funds, leaving very little time to get quality players in and for the team to gel..I as well as many others are dissapointed with the results etc,but please lets not act like the plums that used to run our club and call for a new manager..were bigger and better than that.
People moan about not playing two up front but if we did that and played Taarabt he wouldn't be able to roam around and do his thing without leaving the full-back completely exposed. One up front isn't necessarily a defensive formation if you've got Taarabt in a free role and attack-minded wide players. No formation is defensive or attacking- it's how you go about the game.
Well Watford,if thats the reason behind 451 whats your reason for us being at the bottom of the league and also our inability to score goals. As I have said already tonight we should not be sentimental towards NW because of where he got us.We are here now and want to stay and if hes not the right man he should go.If he suddenly got an offer from Man Utd to manage do you think hed stay with us ???.
Reasons for being 17th (not bottom), in order of importance, imho: 1) Warnock having 10 days to cobble a squad together when he should have had funds from the day after the Leeds game to bid for targets. This meant having to get in players he probably knew deep down weren't good enough while he saw the likes of Graham and Morison get snapped up as he pleaded with Briatore to thrown him a few pennies. I don't think he really wanted Gabbidon, Dyer, ****tu, Bothroyd, Campbell and others but he was forced to just get bodies in and worry about what to do with them later. 2) Not putting chances away. Whether playing 442, 451, a christmas tree or a diamond, if professional footballers aren't converting simple chances you are going to lose points. 3) Luck. We've not been getting the rub of the green. They say it evens itself out and if that's the case I think we're due some favours because there have been far more dodgy decisions against us than for us. The formation isn't an issue. Most of the top teams play one recognised striker and it's not a problem. In some games we've given teams too much respect but in general we've just been nowhere near clinical enough despite creating decent chances. Even today with 10 men for most of the game we've spurned plenty. At Arsenal the other day we would had enough chances to get something out of the game. I don't see what Man United have to do with it. Getting rid of the manager now would be a stupid thing to do and there's hardly a vast number of excellent managers queuing up to take over. Like him or loathe him, if Warnock can't do it then I don't think anyone that we could get could.
Today's bad match was a killer, and with the luck we're having then I don't think we can expect anything other than being in a dog fight for the rest of the season. But we shouldn't forget how far we've come in such a short time, and Neil deserves our gratitude and our continued backing. That's level-headed loyalty, not sentiment.
Agree. I remember Graham, Morison and Long getting snapped up, while Bernie was giving interviews about being a Chelsea fan and Flavio was issuing gagging orders to Warnock
My point about "Man Utd" is a sentimental issue. If he was offered a better job now he would take it. Dont let our feelings for NW cloud our thoughts about our future.
i hope the forwards we have learn from Macheda. He only had ten mins but within seconds his movement in the box and making a nuisance of himself was refreshing. we haven't had someone like that up front and i wish him well. Oh well, onwards to MK hopefully we will put up a fight even just to boost morale.
Is the atmosphere at LR affecting the players? Are the fans not getting behind the team bar the Chelsea game? Empty seats must be disheartening for the players
Agree with this Watford! People rambling on about only 1 striker is a right load of old tosh - the formation is used by top clubs with success and involves having a fluid midfield and wing backs who get up in support of and create for the striker, and each other, as well as working back in defense. Its no more defensive than 4-4-2. We need players to hit the target, and reduce the number of chances we're giving the opposition, plus better luck. We have played well the last 3 games and got 1 lousy point, I reckon we deserved all 3 today.
