Lawrence Shankland (Dundee Utd) who has scored 15 goals so far this season after his step up from Ayr Utd has been called up to the Scotland Squad.
There was talk we were looking at him during the close season but the lad certainly knows where the onion bag is, and yes it's only Scotland but he does what our strikers aren't and that's scoring goals.

It cost us last season and it'll cost us league positions this season too.
Though I do think a fair bit of it is down to not playing football that creates the type of chances they need.
I think we're far too defensive, don't press nearly enough and don't get the ball to (especially WG) their feet in front of goal.

Ross keeps going on about clean sheets yes if they can be achieved... brilliant but even Chitty and the Bindippers have problems keeping clean sheets. However what these two can do is score goals
    .
.we need a goalscorer.. Griggs no, Wyke good to feed off, but unless McNulty is the Phillip's to his Quin.
    We need a goalscorer

The football ross advocates must be soul destroying for a player like grigg.
You need a Walters ( ex stoke ) type to run around bulldozing players and chasing lost causes. That isnt grigg. Sadly wyke lacks the technique and composure when a lost cause comes off.
Play decent football with lots of passes and high pressing and grigg will get you goals in this league.
We have bought a sheep dog and are treating him like chihuahua.
    But that is ross

I'm not having a dig, just interested to hear why you think Maja had no trouble scoring playing for Ross, or am I just missing the obvious.

Maja was a natural goalscorer from inside the 18 yard box. We miss a poacher who scores from inside the 18 yard box and inside the 6 yard box. SKP was both. He fed off Quinn in both areas. We haven't got that in even the smallest quantity at the mo

We will regret not signing this kid IMO, Scottish league or not the kid has something.

Can’t understand what risk factor it would have been to take him on a free and give him a 2 year contract, considering we paid a fee and gave Charlie Wyke a 3 year deal. But hey that’s Sunderland for ya lads ‍♂️

I thought we did try to get him, maybe he didn't fancy the move or there was some other issue.

By all accounts he was only a target under the idea of Campbell taking over.

Surely we haven’t reached the point where Dundee United are a more attractive proposition than ourselves if it was a straight shoot out.

Not in general but to a young Scot playing in Scotland and doing well up there it might seem a decent option to stay. Similar to how Bordeaux are better than us but in hindsight it would have been better for all parties if Maja had stuck with us.

Who knows, if Shankland keeps his league form up and does well for his country he might get a move to a top championship side or even a premier league team who fancy a cheap punt.

Sorry but I’ve watched Grigg miss 4 or 5 golden chances that any this level striker should bury. I’ve also watched him have 8 or 9 half chances whee you’d expect at least one to go in. None of these include his goal at Burnley. Blame Ross for a lot of things, but not fir Grigg missing chances.
