    why any of the board would think that appointing Hughes will end in nothing but disaster. The fans dont want him so as soon as results start to go bad they will turn. There are so many other good managers that we could attract to Stoke. Mark Hughes track record is one of the worst I have ever seen and the football he plays isnt much better. I will support him if he is appointed but I think that we will be even money to get relegated with him at the helm.

    Ay up mate, I was thinking the same thing as its the only reason I can think of, it must be because hes a big name in football and not for his managerial skills. I will get behind him 100% if he gets the job even though he wouldnt be my choice or MON for that matter.

    Judging by recent press and my little inside knowledge (I posted about TP wanting full control and that being the reason of his dismissal before the press printed), I think they are struggling with the following;

    They want someone as a pure first team coach.
    Although they are not adverse to spending money, they would rather consolidate and build.
    Cartwright is here for the long term and will be a stumbling block for most new managers - as it was for TP!

    Hughes has/had an issue with point 3 - whether that's has been resolved I don't know.

    <laugh> Unlucky Boys!

    When your board sacked Pulis the words "Careful what you wish for!" sprang to mind. A missed opportunity to bring in and up and coming manager like Gus Poyet who would have changed your style of play. Now you will end up with more of the same!

    Good luck for next season!

    Time will tell my friend, I don't have too much enthusiasm for this proposed/done deal appointment.

    I said elsewhere (and agree with you), we appear to have missed a golden opportunity to change.

    Where are the your (Sir) Bobby Robson's when you need them, rhetorical question I know, they broke the mould when they made him.

    I know you guys are disappointed but surely that statement is 'the worst I have ever seen'! OK he did pathetically at QPR and appeared to have bought unbelievably poorly, however his other jobs were largely successful;

    Blackburn - Punched above their weight, played good football, spent little and finished well above mid table

    Man City - Did kick them on a notch from Sven, not to the level that Mancini did but took them further for sure

    Fulham - Improved on Hodgson (from 12th to 8th) who was lauded as a messiah for his work at Fulham, improved them

    So in reality the only bad job was his last at QPR, and yes it was a shocker, but to say his record is the worst you have ever seen is ridiculous, did you only start watching football recently?

    I would say that Pulis leaving was just half of most people's wishes.

    I feel a little more positive about it now.
    I don't think the board would accept the same football for five more years: If this doesn't work out, then we can have a proper shake up

    track record as in how he treats clubs I meant you fool. Its not all about results its how when things go wrong he walks away and never takes responsiblity and talks utter garbage. As ive said I will support whoever comes in but he wouldnt be in my first 3 choices. Ive been watching football long enough pal to know that how he conducts himself will in the end leave our club in the ****. Ask any Stoke fan about the things he said about Stoke when he managed fulham, his attitude stinks but if he becomes Stoke manager I will support him but hes still an arrogant pratt who will walk away at the first sight of things going tits up!..................................................thanks for your concern though

    Our little football club has been blessed by 2 legends of the game and I doubt that we shall have a 3rd! I have absolutely no axe to grind with you guys but I just think it is a bit bizarre that you have chosen another retread instead of being a bit bolder and going for the likes of Poyet. Time will tell but Hughes and loyalty don't belong in the same sentence! Just look what he did at Fulham!

    ;) Think apart from the leaving Fulham part for QPR its unfair on Hughes. Most managers up and down the land leave for better jobs elsewhere, in fact others bandied about like Poyet would be doing exactly the same so it smacks of hypocrisy. He left Wales(another excellent job too) to go to Blackburn which anyone would have done, then from there to Man City, again who would have turned that down? The only club you can say he may have 'treated harshly' is Fulham. Not exactly a track record is it?

    Hodgson finished 7th, then 12th in the year he took us to a European final. Hughes had us bottom 3 at Xmas then changed back to the Hodgson team and style and we finished 8th. Thank god he said we had no ambition and left, as who knows how quickly he would have relegated us! Just to sum up, I would be very underwhelmed by his appointment!

    then he spent 100000 million pounds at QPR and left them rock bottom, made 3 of the worst signings in premiership history Santa Cruz 17.5 million, Robinho £32.5 million, Jo £19 million......................track record is buiding up now. Yes he did well at Blackburn but they played similar to how stoke did under Pulis which is what we were trying to stear away from. For me its a bad choice but would love to be proved wrong and ill support him no matter what because its pointless getting on the blokes back, and the Hughes out photos etc im seeing are wrong. If we get him we need to get behind him and the team!!

    Not disputing he did bad at QPR. To be fair to the Santa Cruz deal, he did originally buy him for a bargain price at Blackburn. Jo and Robinho were not great, however lets be honest he was working under money is no obligation conditions at City. I am not a fan of Hughes per se, just think he is coming under a lot of flak, mostly for admittedly one bad job. He did bring the likes of Kompany to City though so you have to balance it out. I will admit though that Hughes will have to have loooked long and hard at his mistakes at QPR if he is to get back on track. Most managers underperfom at some stage though, even Fergie for 6 years, Mourinho at Real should have done better.

    Don't let any one tell you he did a good job at Fulham, at Christmas time under Hughes we were 3rd from bottom, by April we were 16th and still in trouble, it was only when senior players started coming back into the side that Hughes put a few wins together, and we got to 8th place. Under Hodgson we were in the Europa cup and got to the final so started to lose games because of injuries and resting players, hence he finished 12th.
    Another thing you have to watch and worry about Hughes is that he has an adviser called Kia Joorabchian who basically is not allowed by the FA to be a players agent but gets involved in a lot of Hughes transfer business, (if you remember the Tevez, Mascherano dealings and problems at West Ham, he was involved as being part owner of them) and had a lot to do with signings at QPR.
