If he is planning to play 4-3-3 then why isn't he playing it in pre season? I have said this before, against a very good team we will struggle defensively which shows in the match against psg tonight. Not because we don't have good defenders but mainly because he insists playing with 2 strikers. Memphis is not a no 10 and he won't dictate game from the middle, neither will he offer anything defensively. Memphis is a good player who will run at defenders when played on the left. Also mata is better playing in the middle. Ok lets say we don't have a good right winger at the moment so leave mata on the right, then why not play herrera behind Rooney? He will run forward and also offer s lot defensively, can hold the ball better than Memphis too. Will also have a better understanding with mata. The way it is I am 90% sure van gaal will start the season with Memphis as the second striker. Against weaker teams will will thrive, but against tougher opponents we will be toothless.
And oh, even if he wants to play with 2 strikers i would still prefer Chicharito and Rooney rather than Rooney and Memphis. With Chicharito playing Rooney can be the no 10 and we all know that is about his best position.
Rooney is looking very sharp as is Mata. Darmian looks like a very good buy but should never be allowed near throw in's (I reckon 10 mins of that first half was taken up with him deciding who to throw to). Bastian is nowhere near ready yet, we should look better when Morgan comes on, de Gea is having a mare and Jones should not be starting ahead of Smalling. Apart from the two goals not too bad for a pre-season game
If he wanted to keep the same players on the field he could swap Memphis and Young, I think it could work better. Swapping Memphis for Young, Young for Mata and putting Mata in the 10 would be even better
Yes not too bad for a pre season game. But I can tell u that u are practically looking at the team what would start against spurs, only change is Morgan coming in for Bastian. I thought Memphis was brought in to replace young? Young has been non existent throughout pre season.

Well, that wasn't worth the sore eyes in the morning. Absolutely toothless, not sure their keeper had to make more than one save from a Memphis free kick. Lets hope that was the bad game out of the way and we start the season with style.

Can some one enlighten me, why are Memphis, Bastian and Morgan called by their fancy first names while Young and Mata are simply Young and Mata? I need to know.

In the case of Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin, their names are a bit of a pain to type and spell for some people, hence Bastian and Morgan, less letters and easier to type. Not quite sure why Depay gets called Memphis though, Depay is a lot quicker to type. I also agree with people misusing the word literally, does my nut in. Saw on a TV show once they had a news report about Britney Spears having a breakdown, and the reporter said "She is literally.....on a roller coaster to hell". Now that would have been good to see.
I think I read somewhere that his parents are separated and he's not on good terms with his father so he didn't want his surname on the back... Could be wrong but I've seen that reason a couple of times in articles.
