Morning Gents, I got back into work after a very long weekend and stupidly logged on to BBC's 606. Take this how you will, it could be gen or gossip, who cares it's Friday. The club has held an interview this week with Chris Houghton, I believe the interview took place in London. Roberto Di Matteo is also being interviewed this week and set to take place in Birmingham. Regarding Alan Curbishley, the where about or when his interview is to take place hasn't been mentioned but if chosen he will have Mervyn day as his N0 2. If the club want Martin OâNeil then they may have to battle it out with a few Championship and prem clubs, as Nottâs Forest are also meant to be parting with Billy Davies and with Mark Hughes leaving Fulham. Even though Mark Hughes will have to give Fulham a months notice and can not leave till the end of June, an interview will be set up between himself and Cardiff. The club hoped they would have Dave Jones successor soon but we all know this process takes time. This is all up for debate gents, WUM's will be moved along in an orderly fashion.
Mark Hughes wants the Villa job, but it looks like Fulham have scuppered that by making him work his notice, Villa want a quick appointment......so Sparkey could be looking for a job.......we've got one OldSparkey at Cardiff, not sure I'd want another one TBH
I wouldn't worry too much Proph - he could be YoungSparkey if he came to us. BTW, I'm up for an interview with Gethin on the weekend.....
I've heard something similar I get the feeling though, as much as I'd like O'Neill, that is really between Hughton & Di Matteo. Both good managers but I'd prefer Di Matteo out of the two.
Don't think O'Neil is an option, it'd be fantastic but not likely. Sparky, probably not, he's looking at the premiership. Hughton isn't, in my opinion, good enough to build from scratch and get us into a play-off spot. Di Matteo would need a season or two to build but I think given the resources he can move us forward after another season of disappointment.
I've got to admit I'm getting to the point where I don't care who is appointed (within reason). All the names flying around have their good/bad points, will no doubt have their own methods and ideas. I'm just hoping whoever it is can get into the transfer market and get us a team/squad we can all get behind. I can't remember a time when us bluebirds have been so divided, or in some cases, alienated against a manager/certain players as last season. Putting all the off-field crap aside, the matchday support was unquestionable but far too often turned to frustration and disappointment, which could probably explain my previous comment. Obviously a high profile manager would show a statement of intent from the club but thats not to say a lesser experienced one couldn't have the same impact. It's all opinions but I think if, whoever comes in, can put together a team/squad that shows they have the hunger and desire then they will win over us fans as a unit (don't like the 12th man reference) and we all know the difference we can make. The ST sales sends a message the support is there so come on TG, VT, GJ, ABCDE... nows the time for a fresh start. The past is done and consigned to the history books. Personally, I'm optimistic with a hint of caution...such is the life of a Cardiff City fan. The future is bright, the future is BLUE.
Another rumour doing the rounds is Chris Houghton to be installed and Neil Ardley to be his assitant but like i have mentioned just a rumour.
Curbishley would be perfect for the Cardiff scenario right now IMO , another gem finder like Jones but more personable to the rank & file . Curbishley & Bellamy signing would get the ball rolling the right way , everything else would start falling into place . Cardiff need things to start happening quick though .
curbishley wont manage in the championship, nor would i want another boring old school manager, it would be deja vu, and although i believe that we have made some sort of contact with o neill, lets be honest, its highly unlikely he will consider managing in this division. hughton and matteo surely would, you cant see anyone giving them a job in the top division anyway.
Hope we get an answer soon, this is like waiting for Christmas as a kid. You know something's coming, but you don't know how much you'll like it!
Maesteg.. thanks for posting the update but please say where the source is... ie. Carl in this instance. You have taken his words verbatim )
My brother tells me that ex Barnsley & Rotherham boss Mark Robins has emerged as a contender tonight, has anyone else heard this? Apparently he is the favourite with some bookies!?! Robins has done a great job at both the clubs he has been at, would be a gamble though with no big successes to his name. I suppose we all have to start somewhere?
Yes I have heard this too but it doesn't fill me with excitement. That said, he didn't have the players at Barnsley but did well enough T Rotherham. Not my first choice by a long stretch.
I think it is looking more and more likely it will be a Hughton and Ardley team, i hope Bellamy returns as this will help to attract the better players on the transfer merrygoround
Recent history suggests going for the likes of Robins may well work, just look at the swans and Blackpool with Rodgers and Holloway. Not very impressive records but got the best out of the teams they put together and got to the premier league.
I can’t believe how quiet things are nothing on sky on the websites BBC or CCFC. As said already it is doing my head in too. I just hope that the time being taken is purely to make sure that they get the right man and not because they cant lure who they want. I hope it gets sorted soon though as there are some decent players out there on a free at the moment and the longer we take the more they will get snapped up.
