First they nick Sterling for peanuts. Hope this is not true:

Liverpool are in talks with Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, after hijacking QPR’s move for him, according to reports from The Sun.

The Royals stopper was thought to be undergoing a medical with Harry Redknapp’s side with a £4m offer having been accepted by the Championship outfit.

However it’s now understood that the Reds have matched their rivals’ bid and are now discussing a deal for the ‘keeper.

Brendan Rodgers is known to be on the lookout for an understudy to challenge the erratic Simon Mignolet, with McCarthy an option.

Sources close to QPR are still confident that they will lure him to Loftus Road, but Liverpool can offer the 24-year-old greater wages and the chance to play Champions League football.

Rodgers’ side have been chasing Sergio Romero of Sampdoria, but a deal for the Argentine has been stalling.

McCarthy impressed for Reading before they were relegated to the second tier, and is currently battling Adam Federici for a starting berth at the Madejski Stadium.

David McIntyre reckons he's still coming to us.

We seem to be fighting battles on all fronts at present. I suspect the real story of this transfer window is a lot more complicated than many of us give the team credit for.

It is still possible that come the end of Monday, there may be some smiles from QPR fans with Beard & Co exhausted from their efforts.

I don't think many fans give people like Beard and the board much credit for the work they do. Without having a single piece of insight to what's actually happening behind the scenes, people assume that a bid accepted for a player means that the deal should be closed within hours. The truth of it is it takes time and long negotiations, sometimes they come off and other times they don't, but I hardly doubt if when they don't it's anything to do with the boards negotiating tactics. We have some very rich backers who are far more used to negotiations than most clubs ever will. Failure to sign players now is more likely to do with us not wanting to be taken for a ride.

But yes, Monday is going to be another one of them days. Rumours, BS and hoping we end the day in a positive position. But let's face it, better to be in the position we're in, with the owners we've got and with a manager who has a knack of attracting good players, than the position we were in a few years ago with owners who tried to bury us?!

I have to admit that under Learner and Rodgers they seem to have lost their moral class. For me it started with the Suarez bite against the scum. If they had really hit him hard (as apposed to the FA) The world cup incident may not have happened.

Without having a single piece of insight and then go on to write the truth of it is -
