I don't want to see loads of new signings in the summer.

With (alledgedly) £35 million+ to spend in the summer, we will undoubtedly be linked with a multitude of players between now and the end of the transfer window. Basically we have 6 months of bullshit, guesswork, and lazy journalism ahead of us.

Currently our squad is decent but light in numbers and although we certainly need to buy a few players and also need to offload a couple, I do not want to see too many changes made to this squad.

The problem is, that if Pardew makes too many changes, it could change the dynamic of the group and we could lose the incredible team spirit that has done so much in us achieving what we have.

I would rather we bring in maybe, just 3 players in the summer, and let 3 go. This of course, is assuming that we hold onto our top players like Barton, Tiote and Enrique.

The squad does not need drastic surgery and I am a great believer that teams should evolve slowly. 3 additions to the squad in the summer, maybe a couple in January and another 2 in the summer of 2012 could see this team develop into a team that can consistently challenge for a european spot, especially if we see 2 or 3 of our youngsters start to achieve their potential.

    What do you guys think?

I dunno, i think we need 3 players for the first team, and a couple to strengthen the bench.
We need a striker or 2, left, and potentially right, winger, and cover for LB, CB and another winger as cover.

    In my opinion.

I agree. I just hope the management realise this.

In my opinion, we just need some good strikers, some cover and a little more depth. One of the key features of any top 4 team is that even their substitutes are top quality players. For example, a lot of Arsenals subs could easily get a startling 11 spot in most other lower teams. We need to be able to make a sub without reducing the overall quality of the team on the pitch (or perhaps only reducing it very slightly).

At the moment, the only way we can put fresh pairs of legs on the pitch during the game is by essentially putting someone **** on. That's gotta change.

A box-to-box midfielder to work with Tiote(Sorry take Nolan's goals and he'll look a Championship standard midfielder).
    One or two CLASS strikers.
A DECENT versatile player(who can cover defense and midfield if possible.. NOT PERCH).

    That's about it really.

Sign 3 or 4 Quality players for the first team and buy Quality youth players from across the world for the Academy/Development Squad

    Yann M'Vila from Rennes
    Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea
Alex Chamberlain from Southampton (Could be that Kieren Dyer type player we are missing in Midfield)
    Charles N'Zogbia from Wigan
    Douglas Costa from Shakhtar
Jose Angel from Sporting Gijon /Patrick Van Aanholt from Chelsea

2 strikers of a higher quality than Shola, Lover and Best.
    RM to replace Routledge
    LB cover for Enrique
    RB cover for Simpson
    DM cover for Tiote

As long as the players brought in for cover are of sufficient quality to push for a starting line up then we've got a stronger squad overall.

    ------- Barton ---- Tiote
    Albrighton - Gervinho - Bale
    ----------- Bendtner

    ^ That looks AWESOME!

But unfortunately we won't be getting the likes of Bale and Albrighton!

Personally this would be a good enough team to challenge for the European places next season :
    Harper
    Simpson Colo Willo/Saylor Enrique
    Tiote Barton
NEW RM/Guti Ireland(ON FORM) Ben Arfa
    QUALITY STRIKER <INSERT NAME>

2 strikers, a winger (depends how Ireland gets on in that position and if we keep him), LB cover. 4 at least I'd have thought.

I agree with Chappaz we could do with some more quality in depth. We've had to bring Perch on a few times recently and not to cover an injury in the back four.

Three or four quality signings of first team quality to improve our overall strength would be nice and i would hope that Pardew will promote from our academy if possible to provide additional backup. But hopefully not too many changes, the most successful clubs don't generally make alot of signings each window.

Got me second in the league after 16 games, 2 games in hand on Chelski when 5 points behind! Only second season aswell. It's good that Bale hadn't really hit form, or i would've never got him! Just scraped through the group stages in Europe though, i mean, Bomby (or whatever), Rosenburg and Red Bull Saltzberg are tough...

Ireland could be a signing if he rediscovers his Citeh form, but honestly i'm not hopeful. He's being touted as a winger, what side did he play on? I always remember him playing centrally.

We certainly need at least one striker, perhaps two and cover at left back. That's 3 players already. Then we need to invest in some younger players to bulk out the squad (they will cost less and can be investments for the future).

The heart of the team (midfielders) don't need touching (in my eyes) unless players leave. We'll have Tiote, Arfa, Nolan, Barton, Gosling, Gutierrez, Guthrie, Vuckic (Smith can leave)... e.t.c.

Shane Long would be OK, but not the type of signing we need IMO, looks good enough in the Championship but can he make the step up to the Premier League? And would it be a gamble worth taking?
