    .....but I do on this.

I would envisage 10 groups of 4 with the winners and best 2 runners up going through to the round of 16. The other 8 runners up would go into a draw for 4 matches, with the winners progressing.

I totally agree with expanding the number of teams, there's a lot more countries in the world nowadays so the world cup should reflect it.

Don't think South America should get another spot though, they're already disproportionately represented (if the south american team wins the play off, then half of all of the countries in the continent are in the world cup. I'd give an extra two places to North America though.

"Football is changing and now we have 209 associations," said Platini, who is expected to challenge Blatter for the Fifa presidency in 2015.

Moving away from Platini's suggestion re. increasing the number of countries in the finals (which is an interesting one), this is the thing the worries me - we hopefully rid ourselves at last of Sepp "dodgy" Blatter at FiFA, and what do we get ? - Michel Platini !

Let us see what his decision is after 'intensive' investigations into the alleged racist chants/noises aimed at Yaya Toure in the recent match between CSKA Moscow and Man. City.

I bet you a tenner that little or no action is taken by UEFA against the Russian team, yet Platini will most probably get elected to the top job at FiFA and all the riches (legal or otherwise) that the position brings. Talk about jobs for the boys......
