I do hate Fatty, but top marks for fighting his corner. Pisshead Lawton wouldn't

Just goes to show it isn't really Footballer of the Year, it’s the nice person of the year. Ridiculous. Andypom, Wellington
No, it isn’t Andy, but some members of the Football Writers Association, young and old, do believe that being a role model is part of the package. It certainly was when the award was inaugurated and it could be argued that a positive image matters more than ever now, when there is so much dubious behaviour in the game. Not a view I subscribe to personally, but I recognise its sincerity.

That's not fighting in his corner donga, that's excusing other role models for banging granny prostitutes or banging their brothers wife.<whistle>

I think he's reverting to type a bit here. His responses to the comments seem as prejudiced as ever.

If I hear about the world cup handball 1 more time <doh>

Noone ever mentions England struggling against Trinidad and Tobago I think in the WC and crouchy pulls himself up via the defenders dredds to open the score. A far far worse example of cheating from a proud Englishman.

A thinly veiled example of character bashing AGAIN.

He just can't leave it alone. What is this articles worth, what is its use, filling more column inches with Samual sh*te that is actually just an attempt to move his attacks on Suarez subtly away from direct bashing because actually the public are getting bored of it.

So author a story and then later when you realise the story was not as sympathetically received as he thought it would be, and infact painted him as a tired journalist regurgitating the same old Sh*te, atone it with a discussion piece were he hardly tries to paint a contrary view just sort of faintly pretends he is actually balanced and wants to redress the exaggerated opinions and arguments that he was key in establishing, what a wan*er.

What really pisses me off is how he takes everyone as fools, patronising in bucket loads, and talks about the virtuous press, what a crock.

    Rant Over.

Footballer of the year has been a joke ever since Giggs got it out of sheer pity that he had never won it before when he was nowhere near the best player that year.

I can assure you that the majority of Soca Warrior fans (Trinis) thought Couchie's 'pull' was very funny. If they didn't think it was racial abuse or even poor sportsmanship then why should we beat ourselves up bout it?

Not my point Frank. I am saying it was every bit as distasteful as what Suarez did, see what I mean, Crouch does that.. ahh its funny, yet Suarez is a figure of hate. Fair play to the Soca Warriors, it seems a lot of English fans could learn something from them<ok>

Yeah the guy is a twat, he gives smart half answers that are not even in the context of the question asked sometimes, leaves important bits out, he would have been torn apart in a real time debate.

this is simple.. suarez gets 30 goals and RVP gets footballer of the year cos he moves to utd.

    in the end who cares?

if suarez gets 30 for us it'll be a big return.

Suarez has been ever present. He makes so much more of his own goals that RvP. Is more exciting to watch, he is never missing, even RvP has been missing at times. playing well or not Suarez never goes missing in a game.

For me the best player so far. It makes me laugh cos he ain't meant to be our main striker and he's been called not a natural finisher and he's 1 goal behind the prolific RvP. If he was a natural finisher he'd have 8 more goals at least.

If Luis continues like this through the season and ends up within a goal of RvP. He will rightly deserve the award that he ain't gonna win.

but he didn't join utd in a big money deal. RVP is a shoe in for all awards.. "cos he made the difference".... not that city imploding compared to last years form can be counted.. not when utd are exactly the same as last year but cty are nowhere.... no RVP makes the difference. its the english press way.

When suarez wins something then he can get an award not before... prob has to score 50 goals and win a cl to get an award from the english press.

Its also nothing to do with Suarez being a South American with a 'win at all costs' attitude (c.f. handball in world cup match) and also the Dutch being practically English (many having played here since the 70s).

If it had been an English player 'taking one for the team' to prevent a certain goal in the WC, the media would have been at least divided over the act. As it is, he's Jonny Foreigner not abiding by the 'spirit of the game', regardless of receiving the appropriate punishment, both personally and for his team (conceding a pen).

As the Dutch are honourary English, RVP is a shoe in, even if he now picks up a season ending injury (as he has done in several seasons gone by, the last one excepted)...

I have to laugh, fans, many mancs and spuds amongst others jusge Suarez by moral standards they fall below themselves.

I would find it hard to believe Christiansmith is a more decent human being than Luis Suarez<ok> Who'd leave their kids with Fistiansmith for an afternoon <yikes>
