http://www.norwichadvertiser24.co.u...tin_speaks_about_his_health_battle_1_1390536? Really unpleasant illness, those Crohn's type things. One of my cousins has it. After an incredible season I didn't think my respect for Martin could get any higher, but it just goes to show he's got other battles too. A great pro
I remember the news when it first came to light, and to be honest it couldn't happen to a nicer person. You don't normally associate these things with professional athletes, but it is safe to say Rusty isn't letting it get in the way of being the best footballer he can possibly be!
Yeah I remmeber when he first said he hit a year or so agai. But the way he's being playing you wouldn't be able to tell he had this illness!
I'm glad he manages to manage his illness so that he can keep going. It is worth bearing in mind that there are different levels of severity of the illness. I've seen it before where some people with illness x manage to do y and then uninformed others start banging on about well x can do this why can't you etc. No disrespect to anyone here of course just my observation. I suffer from ME/CFS/PVFS/Fibromyalgia depending on which GP you speak to and what is in fashion on that particular day. I manage to drag myself to work every day but I can understand the position of those who can't even manage to get out of bed on a given day. Best wishes to anyone with a lifelong illness of any description!
Know what you mean Rich! I have an incredibly long list of life long conditions, so much so that I often have to go overleaf on the average medical form! I'm fortunate that all my conditions are relatively minor for now so I can still do whatever I want with one or two exceptions. Although I feel what helps is not allowing the medical conditions to dictate your life mentally. When I'm doing some risky my last thought is my medical conditions and I just go in with a 'what the hell' attitude. I understand though that for some people this is impossible but it's great to see when people just get on with life acting everything's normal. I was in hospital 3 weeks a go with something fairly serious but since then life for me has been fairly normal, with the exception of not driving. I am still drinking despite being advised against it (I'm a student nothing's going to stop that!) and I am still participating in sport. So to have Martin with this problem and still playing brilliantly makes him an excellent role model. If Martin can stop Bale, van Persie et al with what he's got I shouldn't really complain! Darren Fletcher and the Olympic hopeful suffering from an eating disorder should still be considered great role models just there is nothing they could do to continue performing.
I think Steve Redgrave has this as well and look what he did. Martin and Redgrave are both superheroes
Hi Dave, Yes he has got something else but I cannot be 100% exactly what now, I thought it was Crohns but could be wrong. I must Google it!
