Sport > Football > News & Comment 'I despise him': QPR captain Joey Barton lashes at Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer Joey Barton today denied trying to deflect attention away from his behaviour at Manchester City as he waited to learn whether faced a nine-match ban. QPR midfielder Barton apologised again this morning for his red card and subsequent actions in his side's 3-2 defeat yesterday which marred City's sensational Barclays Premier League title win and their opponents' survival celebrations. Last night then saw Barton launch an expletive-laden attack on his former manager at Newcastle and current Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer. But he denied accusations from presenter Gary Lineker that his attack on Shearer was an attempt to deflect attention away from his conduct. Barton today posted on Twitter: "No deflections here mate. Think the fact about 100m people seen it will see to that. Just don't like how he gets personal..." He added: "Right enough about yesterday, I apologise to everyone offended by it. If that's not enough for some, so be it. Life is too short. "Things happen on the pitch, in the heat of battle sometimes. Not how we always plan them to happen. "For there are brighter sides to life and I should know because I seen them, but not very often..." Barton will serve an automatic four-match ban for his dismissal for elbowing City striker Carlos Tevez during the second half at the Etihad Stadium yesterday. However, he seems certain to face additional sanctions from the Football Association for his subsequent attacks on matchwinner Sergio Aguero and Blues skipper Vincent Kompany which, with the add-ons for previous dismissals, could see him start next season with a nine-match suspension. Barton tweeted last night: "Can do nothing but apologise to the players and fans. "Still don't think it is a sending off. "Still not my proudest moment but who gives a f***. We are safe. "The head was never gone at any stage. Once I'd been sent off, one of our players suggested I should try to take 1 of theirs with me. Never worked but god loves a trier. "Think a few people are forgetting Tevez started the fracas by throwing a punch to the head." The 29-year-old took to the social networking site again later in the evening to direct his ire towards Shearer after being criticised by the former striker on Match of the Day. He posted: "Shearers still on my case... I know I f***** up Alan, thanks for stating the obvious. "Whilst were both stating the obvious about each other, can I just say for the record what a great player u were. Well better me... "But I have a better hair (which is not hard), wear well better shirts on TV and have a personality (something u lack). "P.S. My final point, ur a s*** pundit/manager... "I really don't like that p****, in fact I honestly despise him... Goodnight."
he also reminded people of the fact shearer booted someone in the head but threatened to resign from int footy if he was prosocuted for it. Nothing wrong with what JB posted on twitter. Lets not forget that shearer was also a horrible little chunt !! And this is from a barton hater..but he was good value yesterday !!
Its all about joey and for a very good reason. What he did yesterday was not acceptable ,but in a way (now when we stay up) his target was a right one. Carlos Tevez is the most disgusting footballer on the earth.
I will not have people saying that Tevez is the most disgusting footballer on earth. That title belongs to that **** El Hadj Diouf!!!
I care about QPR in this context and I'm annoyed that Barton has given the FA a chance to indirectly punish QPR yet again. Inexcusable at every level and doubly so because he was having a decent game and we might even have gone on to draw of, against all odds, win had he kept his cool. That would have put QPR in the history books and that is what is thoroughly annoying.
We do NOT want to sink to such low levels. We are QPR and we have a fine history and tradition. This one numptie is putting our name to shame.
We are already in the history books. Joeys sending off gave us the joint record of sendings off in one season!!!!
Avoiding that to happen again should be sparkys first priority for the next season. We lost seven out of nine matches when our player was sent off. Draw one (villa) and won just once (spurs) Im believing we lost 6-12 points for that
Shearer is head and shoulders above Joey as a footballer and as a person. Alright, he is the insomniacs best friend, but he ain't a thug.
He was thousand times better as a footballer that is absolutely true. Better as a person.....? Dont know because i feel very sleepy each time shearer opens his mouth. Joey is a genuine dick but in a some strange way i find him as a good entertainment......In seventies football fields were full of thughs ,characters and hard men like barton and it was exiting to never know what happens next. In those days they did not sent off player for a thing like barton did yesterday. Now its full of balletdancers and tevezstyle primadonnas.
you are f-ing joking right? the same guy that booted someone in the fasce and threatened to quit int football...both are absolute w-kers!! I dont like Joey but Shearer is a disgrace also.. Not a thug..do you remember anything about him..really?
totally agre with you '68. I said long ago that i dint want him near our club< but , Maybe he was what we needed at the time (midfield enforcer). Still dont like him, but am sick of QPR being regarded as an easy touch and a roll over. We need some steel and that seems to have come in the form of Diakate....He wil be the new Vierra and him with Ali is somnething i cant wait to see....... As for JB, we move him on asap..do a job at wetspam / blackpool...
