We used to come down on double decker buses.... join the people off the trains....yeh......this was Londons great day out...course its not just the crowd....one hundred thousand people, but all eyes on single names coming at you down the home straight of history, Sea Bird, Nijinsky, Shergar or the horse that re-wrote history Sea the Stars......here's the stage, the ups and downs, twisting and turning, one and a half miles...plus 10 yards of the finest turf......then there's the cast of characters, Kings and Queens, Owners and Trainers and the jockeys, skinny little giants of all this, but only one that stands out above them all......if you keep at it, maybe one day, your dream of being of being a winning derby jockey might just come true..... 15 times it took Frankie Dettori....it might be quiet on the downs now......but Saturday.........Saturday is Epsom.........Saturday is Derby day.......................We are as the crow flies, 18 miles from the centre of London, the downs will be buzzing, Saturday the 4th of June, Derby Day will be upon us....People will travel by open top buses, by cars, by foot, by train, by bicycle, by Helicopter, this place is for everyone....this race was first run in 1780, but this is not just a horse race...........its a massive day out for everyone, you can come in t shirt, in shorts, in top hat and morning dress and champagne is the order of the day......100,000 people.....they will have picnics and high hopes of witnessing a major event......and what an occasion......a royal moment......a moment of sporting history.....the sun will be beating down....you can feel the tension....................................of the biggest flat race in the world.................this.............. is DERBY DAY.....................
