I mean honestly what has the club become?, some bastard child to a Belgium millionaire, getting casts off that can't cut it anywhere else. We were so much better of with Slater and Jimi and once again those, that shouted loudest get what they wanted, we are franchise, nothing more than a McDonalds restaurant, with the clown still in charge.
Thing is if Slater and Jimi wanted us they wouldn't have sold. would they..? Slater has already told us RD will be good for Charlton, so I guess we'll have to wait & see...
Typical, do you honestly think that Slater and Jiminez sold up because because of those who "shouted the loudest"?
Give the new owner a chance, how long has he been in charge? The chuckle brothers have really left us in a strong position haven't they? Over twenty players out of contract, pitch like a Chinese paddy field. Without Roland coming in we would be heading for Administration. Your last remark about he who shouted loudest got what they wanted. What does that mean? Laurel and Hardy sold because they were desperate to sell, the money had long since run out. You really do like these flowery phrases Typical that have no substance whatsoever.
Dicky I like dealing with the obvious not that unsustainable, malicious tripe that is peddled by your mates on other boards who have their heads so far up each others backsides that their foreheads have teeth marks. Once again lets deal in factual matters not speculation. unless you have access to accounts and business plans, then you have no idea what Slats and Jimi can and cant afford to do. or please put me right by reference to evidence? we were in division 3 when Jimi and Slats took over. Now we are not. we had a really bad manager- now we have another one but I will give you that we bought in nearly 50 players while slats and jimi were in charge. we won a title they got rid of the leeches that have dined on the club for years. they put in money (don't care where from) to keep this club going without admin it has been established that the pitch drainage system has been busted for years and Muzza did nothing about it. If you broke it you fix it. twenty players out of contract-so what. may I remind you of our league position? is it a good idea to sign up 20 players with contracts who can't cut it? The last time CAFC fans shouted this loud was to get rid of Curbs and what a great idea that was. Funny how it always seems to be the same people making the same noises. And who wants to put money into a club when these same leeches are calling you all sorts and making libelous comments about you on a public forum? I know I wouldn't. This club has made a huge mistake and some of the fans should be ashamed of themselves. Substance Dick, I could drown you in it.
Sorry, Typical, but you seem to be implying that Slater & Jiminez's decision to sell up has been influenced by internet gossip, which is silly. If you're not saying that, then fine, their decision was surely financial? Personally I liked their commitment to the Academy, their vision might even have worked with a manager who bought into it, but in the end it was a case of, to quote Mark Hulyer, "Owning a football club is like standing over a drain with your wallet upside-down"
I agree that this takeover has been the biggest damp squib since Freddie Mercury came out. Where is the wow factor, and the sense of a new era dawning ? The postponement botch was the worst possible start, and retaining the services of Richard Murray was a huge mistake IMO.
Thats the problem - most takeovers bring that feeling but this hasn't. No RD standing in the Valley holding a scarf, no rousing introduction for a press release. As it stands, think my dads man in the know had it right when he said he thought this was a short term thing.
It's all very 'boardroom'. Maybe there's a signwriter somewhere in the Valley painstakingly writing 'M.Deuchatalet' on the doors and things, but even for the most superficial fan, it would have been nice to see him wearing a scarf saying hi to the fans before the Oxford game. FFS, don't Easyjet fly between Brussels and City airport? Okay, it may not mean much but a large part of this takeover so far contains all the emotion of negotiating the price before a sexual encounter in a 'rooms for 1 hour' hostel. The press reléase pressed a few of the buttons, but in the abscence of anything more, it has all the sincerity of a LibDems election manifestó.
It's just odd that someone spends £14million and doesn't seem to show an interest. He's active in the Belgium press about Liege, but we have nothing. Then we get Liege cast offs, it's easy to see why we might feel neglected and second rate.
There was a very rare good debate about Chris Powell on CL earlier . I am sad to report that a poster well known to this site (initials "D.P") killed it, by grassing up to the Mods the anti Powell infiltrator. The CL regulars have now gone back to discussing cardigans, committees and Bovril as per normal.
This is exactly my point. Whilst I always want to bite my toes off when some foreign arms dealer come over and buys your club and waves the club scarf upside down on purchase day, our Belgium biscuit seem to have bought his own part of Flanders and has the look of a guy whose dog has shat on his bed during the night. I wonder if the Charlton Truss will remove that stick from whatever backside they keep it up and use it with the same venom to beat this guy with than they did with Slats and Jimi. Or do they still harbour pretentions of getting on the board and want to keep him sweet. I can imagine the trust sending Roly a trust memento cardigan and Bovril set, if they can screw more fivers out of some more gullible suckers to pay for it. This is another case of be careful of what you wish for.....
Up till now this takeover. has made the last one look positively ticker tape, and that takes some doing... I agree with "Super, don't see long term commitment, but I do believe he'll improve us in the short term, which shouldn't be that difficult, as the last lot ceased to put in any real investment in the team since promotion... The problems with RD I believe will show up, as they did with Murray if we get some success... Let's hope he'll know when to get out, and that's something Murray certainly had a problem doing... Say what you like about our last lot, but they knew when to sell...
Typical, while I agree with most of your points, the problem with Jimi and Slater at the end of their tenure was the money ran out. For me that was why a takeover began to seem attractive. So far it's all very minimalist. New players yes, but no signings as such, and no sign of the owner. I live in hope of better things, but there is no quantity of money sufficiently small that I would bet it on RD turning into a caring owner and red blooded Charlton lover.
