    That is right ladies & gents - I have been chosen to be an official race maker on wednesday 19th june @ Royal Ascot- so if you're going to be there that day let me know and we can say hi and a have a beer when my duties are finished;

    For any one who doesnt know what a racemaker is ;

    The Racemaker’s Role

    We are assuming that, as a volunteer, a helpful, cheery and polite nature will come as standard! If it doesn’t, then volunteering probably isn’t for you.

    Beyond that, we want you to be yourself. Racing’s audience is varied and colourful, so our Racemakers should reflect that.

    How you share your knowledge and how you interact with racegoers is up to you.

    The structure though will be based on tours or informal talks at advertised times.

    In terms of your general approach to racegoers, it’s worth remembering that you’re the expert and they’re the novice, so it’s important to make the information you impart accessible and easy to understand. And give yourself time to answer general and varied questions.

    It’s important to note that customers don’t need to enjoy racing on your terms but on their terms – so there is no expectation that we’re converting newcomers into an army of experts!

    We want novice racegoers to have fun. Our aim is to teach people more about racing, with the objective of making their overall experience as enjoyable as possible. We believe that once we’ve got them curious, they’re off!

    A particular focus of the Racemakers is to support the Share Your Passion campaign, focussed on racing fans bringing their friends racing. The Racemakers are there to make their visit worthwhile.

    Well done WF just give em some of your tips as you seem in great form at present. Though I'm not generally in favour of violence I feel you'd be doing a great service to racegoers if you seek out that little gay dwarf who comments on the ladies frocks and punch him as hard as you can in the face.
    Are they giving you some nice clobber to wear? I was in a chippy on the welsh coast last week and a geezer joined the queue still decked out in the full Olympics Gamesmaker ensemble. I didn't like to tell him it was all over. It reminded me of them Japanese soldiers who refused to give up 30 years after world war 2 ended.

    I would rather shoot myself in the foot than do that role at Royal Ascot. Can think of nothing worse.

    That said, good luck and enjoy.

    Yours

    Grumpy git Nass.

    good luck Wooly!

    I actually saw some of these new racemakers at Epsom on Saturday although they seemed to be straying quite a way from their stands and so nobody really knew who they were! Looks a classy outfit though.

    Remember "you are looking for a shiny look, smooth walker, well maintained and ready for action"

    I will let Oddy deliver the punch line.
