So, the results unfold. Swindon is now Labour after years of Tory rule. I guess up here we can look forward to a congestion charge like you Bristolians have now…. Not sure what to think TBH. I don’t like the current Tories, but I’m not keen on Labour either. No celebrations or crying either in the R&W camp - just grimly preparing for the next period of poor leadership and crap decisions - and TAXES.
In my honest opinion, people are sick of politics and politicians hence the expected fairly low turnout The media are untrustworthy, the country is beset by minority groups and woke charities and causes that get way too much attention Lockdowns caused part of the discontent as well as being largely responsible for the rise in interest rates and the cost of living which goes up and up and up Where we go from here to even begin to mend our broken society and country, I’ve honestly no idea But you’re right, it will be no better under Labour and it will probably be worse Our forefathers who fought and died in two world wars so that we could live free will be turning in their graves about the mess we find ourselves in Depressing times
I've stopped voting after 50plus years. Why didn't someone tell me it doesn't matter who you vote for. The civil service, the Lords and Lawyers ensure they rule. Brexit and immigration are among cases in point. Can't wait for the next lot to carry on the chaos.
You are not on your own mate, I chose not to vote yesterday for the first time in my life, I'm down here watching the tide come in, you can always dream....
Never voted and will not vote until the uk slayer is removed we did not vote him in. Time for a massive change. Stop the boats-police forces need sorting-law and order need restoring.
Completely off topic. Huge election ! Getting old but nearly had the above (if only) watching Penny Mordaunt. HOT or what !
She’s not for me, not that I saw much of it Kate on the other hand… Can’t understand why Mordaunt was there especially in such a role ? From what little I saw it was all trying too hard to please everyone
So much for the all inclusive coronation, multiculturalism and the associated party’s News crews have visited places like Lutterworth, Hove, Leigh, Hull etc and have been interviewing people at street party events Not a single black or Asian face anywhere to be seen The complete opposite of every single advert on TV
I loved the whole thing. I'd give those protesters 6months hard labour. Miserable bunch of Lefties. Not the same for everyone getting older (Ashton) but I now love the Pomp of our royalty and our history. And I can't stand those idiots who want and have changed place names in Bristol either. Like it or not it's where we came from. Times were so different then. For me it will always be the Colston Hall. And me Angelic, I was trying to be a bit more realistic
Both are unattainable but I have high standards Ditto with the Colston Hall, Colston St, Colston Girls school, Whiteladies Road, Black Boy Hill etc Times were different and it’s not as if we were the only country involved. But we were the first country to abolish slavery. My distant forefathers were more than likely victims of slavery as were yours, so people should shut up and stop the pointless rhetoric for what happened 300 years ago and focus their efforts on modern slavery But of course that doesn’t suit their agenda or narrative. stop the pandering and the inclusive bs ! It’s clearly not working but generally people of all races rub along ok without the nanny state dictating what we should say, think or do. And if the City Council want to do something of use then might I suggest they repair the roads for law abiding Bristol taxpayers for starters Oh and put Edward Colstons statue back on its plinth on the centre where it belongs.
Bristols Labour dominance has seen £bns wasted with nothing to show .. when you see what there is in Bristol / has to offer it has come mainly from private sources ... the council gets involved via "planning " and people think it is them I used to know Swindon like the back od my hand and was well pleased with how everything was ticking over 100 times better than bristol ... people of Swindon LOOK OUT FOR MORE COUNCIL TAX RISES DEBTS AND FAILED IDEALS .....
But Bristol keeps on voting Labour. It’s more ‘safe’ for that lot than any of the Red Wall constituencies. They can basically do what they want - they will always stay in power.
Unfortunately, and for reasons I have never been able to work out, every major city in the country votes Labour despite all the nonsense, virtue signalling and wasted money that goes on
It makes sense when you consider the alternative has raped and pillaged the country for thirteen years with living standards in decline, real incomes falling especially for the poor and life expectancy dropping. One could ask how with all of that anyone is still voting Tory, let alone the projected 25-30%.
I can answer that one. The traditional Tory vote comes from self-employed people, people with savings, high earners - but also retired people - and pensioners are far more motivated to get off their @rses to vote than the youngsters who can’t be bothered but then moan and complain about everything. Of course I’m generalising - but in the main any pensioner voting for any party other than conservative would be like turkeys voting for Christmas because Labour has already stated it will abolish the Triple Lock pension scheme - which is something the Tories have also looked at but haven’t done it because it would piss off a huge section of their core support - the grey vote.
Fair points. I find the triple lock pretty hard to swallow in times of high inflation and with public services so poor but at the same time don’t think pensioners deserve to see their pensions decline in real terms either. Most of these pensioners will have kids/grandkids who they can see being hit by the above though. I’d have thought that would sway more of them than it has done in the past and hopefully will shift a few to other parties next year. I think it’s fair for anyone whether they vote or not to complain when the country has been run so awfully and so not in their interests. One of the few positives of the last seven years is that younger people have become more vocal and engaged. Older people will always vote in greater numbers but the young should be voting in greater numbers next time.
The Tories told us at the last General election they would get immigration under control. This year net migration is 500k and 700k forecast for next year. And they worry about a few on boats ffs. Many are students but after education they don't go home. All fine and legal but come on how any government can let this situation and other immigrations get worse is beyond belief. Will this be better with a Lib/Lab pact? Sorry it's for the fairies. Where we go from here I haven't a clue.
