Hi guys there are a couple of electoral threads on our board - they seem to be leaning to the right tbh. Reform seems to be popular (although that is NEVER reflected in any election results - labour would win in Bristol even if Putin, Hitler or Jimmy Saville were the candidate!!) Just wondering where you guys over the Severn were tending - Plaid Cwmru, Labour, the Tories, Greens ….. Sky have just reported that Reform are now bigger than the Tories, so are the biggest challenge to Labour. Me? I’d vote for anyone who would promise to reverse the disastrous Brexit.
Don't tell Masky about your big election, he'll be jealous. Living in Cheshire, I'm not sure how Plaid will fare. Though fishing acquaintances north of the border think SNP will struggle after the Sturgeon / Morrell shenanigans. As for Bristol, I seem to remember Conservatives getting in for the constituency I was in during the Maggie era. I lived in Bradly Stoke but can't remember which constituency that was in. The boundaries kept changing as well. I can imagine a lot of tactical voting this time round. Anyone bar Conservatives. It feels as if Labour don't need to do much to win it. Conservatives have already done enough to lose it. Unfortunately, I think Brexit was a one way ticket. The EU would have us over a barrel when it came to terms. 'Of course you can rejoin, now let's discuss you joining the Euro'.
With all due respect R&W, your board has always been awash with political threads dominated by less than half a dozen posters. They droll on and go around in circles with posters defending their entrenched positions on all manner of political footballs like immigration, economy, social services, racism et al. As you know I frequently pop over there to join in the football and lightweight stuff but avoid those other threads like the plague. Posters can discuss what they like over here but I doubt "politics" in the broader sense will attract a lot of interest. I stand to be shot down, but that's just my opinion pal.
I'm still in Bradley Stoke and Jack Lopresti is our current Conservative MP . I've been a conservative voter for quite some time, having switched from Labour after/during the Blair/Brown era, with personal circumstances dictating my preference (having gone from struggling, housing association tenant to home owner in a 'modestly' well paid professional job via time as a single parent making ends just about meet whilst going to college in the evenings to better my prospects). In all honesty, I do think things have started to improve marginally under Sunak but sadly in this day and age, slowly just doesn't cut it and too many people want or expect instant gratification and for the world to revolve around their needs and circumstances. That goes for voters, the media and politicians! I am struggling to accept I have to vote conservative again as I do think things need a shake up, but the problem is there isn't any single party that I think we could trust or that has a manifesto that is genuinely realistic and what the country needs. Each have some sensible policies but sadly, our politics is starting to go down the same road as the US where it seems rather than talk about what you CAN do for the country and being open and honest about the impacts policies will have, the parties are more focused on trying to discredit the others and say why their policies WON'T work. Then of course you get the lies, damn lies and statistics.... Part of me is tempted not to vote, but that would be a waste - yet when you can't see anyone worth voting for, which way do you go??
That’s fair enough mate - but now the football season is over there isn’t a lot of football to discuss - apart from the Euros of course - and I wasn’t going to mention them out of respect…..
I blame Cameron and Osbourne for starting the downward spiral in modern politics. To Masky, politics is now confusing and complicated, an underlying trait of corruption, which is horrendous, just saying! Masky voted out of EU assisted by dodgy (to say the least) information aka: lies! The only definite course of action I will take now, is to vote the conservatives out by putting labour in! Masky
Just got to hope the muppet that is Farage loses his deposit. An abysmal, horrible excuse for a human. Just saying....
I have no liking for the man’s politics, but when people throw objects or liquids at him, or call him names, instead of engaging him head on in debate and exposing his bullshit, he wins every time.
I forgot to add; it’s not just politics on our board mate - we have a good old LJ debate from time to time too - sometimes a ‘normal’ football thread morphs into one
Have to say, it does make me chuckle how often pretty much any thread on your board can get turned into a thread about your ex-manager!!
I must admit if things are a bit flat on there I occasionally throw in a Lee Johnson hand grenade to liven things up - it always gets a bite
