Should we have gone for him? Have we missed a trick? He's risky, yes, but then so is Adams in a different way. I personally don't have a clue. What do people think?
I quite liked the idea of him coming here. I did mention on the other thread that his name had been mentioned a few times. Time will tell I guess.
More of a risk than Adams, for me. Probably also higher potential reward, so I can see how people like the idea, but currently I'm a safety first kind of guy!
I'm not sure what we'd be getting if Hyypia had come here. Many people said they didn't want a 'defensive approach' (myself included). That was one of the arguments against Malky. McNally has made it very clear that the club want an attacking approach based on good passing football. Adams, an attacking player, has also said that is his goal and I think it's the principal reason for his appointment, and that of Royle, Holt and Martin as well. Not a defender in sight. I'm prepared to go with that and am very much looking forward to the new season hoping for football to be excited about again.
Agree with everything you say Rick. I just hope that people give Adams and his staff a chance and not get on his back if we don't get off to a good start or are not in the top 6 by the turn of the year. I just fear that our supporters are getting a ' West Ham ' complex. They say we want the team to play the West Ham way and they get a Manager who does but when they lose a few games they want a Manager who wins matches. They bring in Allerdyce who gets them results and they want him sacked because he doesn't play the West Ham way. I am absolutely certain that the entertainment value will shoot up next season but I have serious doubts about us being in the top 6 at the end of the season especially if other clubs come hunting for our so called better players in August. Like most people i didn't particularly want Adams but equally did not know who I did want so,as such, can understand why the Board gave him the job. I have been pleased with all that has happened since and as such am more than happy to give him a couple of years or so to get us back up but people must not expect miracles - the Paul Lamberts of this world are an exception rather than the rule.
Well said 1950, but on the Pink'un site, they're saying Adams should be sacked if City aren't in the top 6 after 10 matches. We could join Fulham by sacking our manager 3 times every year. I like the comparison with West Ham, by the way!
