In the news today there are yet more "Fabregas to Barca" articles. With that in mind, I have a (completely hypothetical) question for you guys:

Let's say that Fabregas hands in a written transfer request and makes it clear that he is determined to move to Barca. Barca tell you that they don't have enough to pay for him in purely cash, and will have to do a player plus cash exchange. They tell you that you can have any one of their players apart from Messi, Iniesta and Xavi.

Who would you take and why? Assume you'll get the same amount of cash no matter what player you choose, and that the deal has to go through.

Pedro is more of a winger and he seems like exactly the sort of player that Wenger would ruin by not allowing to shoot outside the box or pass forwards.

I would take either Mascherano or Villa.

    Goonz<ok>

Villa is another midget, albeit a very skilled one but goals aren't you biggest worry....what I would have said you need is a player with a presence, power and grit, with a defensive element to their game...Mascherano, Pique or Keita maybe?

Personally I would take 25/30m plus Mascherano, we need a hard hitting midfielder to compliment the nice football.

I'm actually beginning to wonder whether we should as Wenger puts it 'fight very hard' to keep Fabregas. Undoubtedly he is our best player, but if his heart is not in it then we should cash in big time, or go down the swap route. Right now I'd rather we had a top class CB and DM in our team than Fabregas.

If Barca really do want Fab, then a swap route is probably going to be the best option. Barca are skint and there's no way they are going to pay £60m for him.

Mash and Pique combined - I'd say £45m - £50m on the open market - could be a good swap deal if all parties are interested

They seem desperate to have him, he seems desperate to go - we could make the most of the desperation?

I'm not sure he is desperate to go, wouldn't be able to blame him mind.

Barca want Cesc as he's "one of their own"
Pique is too, not much chance of that happening....Mascherano, maybe?
