Hypothetical question.....With Hull City in the news regarding the owner wanting to change their name to Hull Tigers, would we at Bristol City sacrifice our name for success? say Bristol Robins! (could be anything) It could mean Premiership football on a regular basis and establish our club with the likes of Man U etc. Interesting debate!! My view ; Mixed but with the lack of success that we have had to endure for so long.....ha ha I'm still not sure.. Your views
Well they got there and changed their name, so you can see why they are pissed off. They got to the prem and look stable as Hull City. Now so a few people 1000's miles away in asia town can buy a hull shirt they want to change the name. If it was Lansdown who said we're going to change our name to the Bristol Robins, whilst I wouldn't really like it. I wouldn't be to pissed off if it meant we would be in the prem etc etc. If we got to the prem as Bristol City, some foreigner took over and wanted to change our name, badge, kit then no, I wouldn't wish that to happen.
If we became successful and played in the Prem, I wouldn't care what a new owner called the club. For me - Bristol City will always be Bristol City. Even if we had to play in blue, I'd still wear red till the day I kick up daisies. A new generation of fans would carry on, they'd be happy, we'd play in the Prem and they wouldn't know any different. Ps - Why should current fans stop any chance of those coming behind watching the club in the Prem. Feel bad enough brainwashing my kids into being City fans, they've only known piss taking from peers.
If Citys identity was brown eyed the Bristol clay commons brick would hit window panes. A street level XI backed by hundreds of Herberts from BS3 - BS3 and their mates from Wessun and the West Wilts axis could appear quickly .. South Bristol FC ... Bristol South End [again] ... Bristol and North Somerset FC ... Summat like that.
I think the answer was when Cardiff changed their shirts to red- The club stated that any season ticket holders could have a refund if they so wished. From what I understand, 70 did. So, were the owners too concerned? I doubt it as 70 is a very small number compared to the number of season ticket holders that stayed. Furthermore, I wonder how many of those 70 are still standing firm and have not returned.
Maybe he is, but if it means success at the club for all at Hull to enjoy.....will they tell him where to go? plus where would that leave them?
It would leave them where they were before He got there.! With a 100 years of history and a solid stable well supported football club. I am starting to re-address whether I need my club to chase the ' Premiership dream' to be honest, what does it achieve? a few miserable seasons at best, of struggling and overspending to eventually drop back down to where you came from, albeit with a few quid coming in each season. (to cover the massive debts created by being in the Prem) Surely the history of the club means more than some rich, spoilt bully who stamps his feet up and down to get his own way?
I am with Banksy on this........the whole Prem dream is not that big on my list. We will be a very very small fish in a massive pond. Much rather be a big fish in a small pond tbh. I enjoyed Ashton Gate much more when we were at the top of L1 compared to struggling to survive in the Championship. Crowds were about the same if I recall correctly but the difference was we were hammering teams .......ok, smaller teams....and the place was buzzing. Of course top of the Championship was good as well but we all know we were on a wave then and as they say, we were probably puching above our weight.
I think I have to disagree with you Banksy & CCR. The potential for our City to have a regular top 10 place in the Premiership, should be what it's all about. As to history of the club.....what history? Struggling in the lower leagues is our history. I don't think the owner of Hull is looking at the club being just successful for a couple of years I think the vision is long term, I believe the aim is competing on a regular basis in the premiership and maybe one day even to enter champions league etc. Are we really punching above our weight to be in or competing in the championship? if that's the case, the vision for this club will continue as it's been for its entire history... I'd love our club to be competing against the likes of Man U etc....No not at all costs, but it would be worth looking at if it ever was a possibility.
Bristol City Robins is about as far as I would like to see us change........... or AVPAC...LOL.. clue ASHTON VALE PLEBS .....!
'interview with Allam on Sky - what a complete t*sser' Why ? It's his money. They can tell him to go and he'll go - so don't see the problem. Hull City fans can't have it both ways.
I agree Redprintt, he's the one that's taken on the debt, he's the one that has put up the money to sign record breaking players with the vision to make them a premiership force.. They have a choice...One of the top clubs in the country or a club heavy in debt yo yo ing between League 1 & 2.....
Oh they are heavy in debt alright, to him, and at an interest rate of 5%, better than any financial institution will give him at present. So he hasn't "taken on the debt" and he has threatened to throw the toys out if he doesn't get his own way. Not my idea of a beneficial owner..
Banksy - Not sure Allam and 'beneficial owner' belong in the same sentence. He's seems an astute (and not very nice) guy with an 'eye for an opening'. The Hull Board and fans got in bed with him and will take the consequences of his decisions. Would I swop bottom of L1 for being called Bristol Robins and playing Prem football. Yes. After 50 years of Ashton Gate heartache I wouldn't mind a change.
