Since Liverpool already won the League Cup, which gives a spot in the qualifying bit of the Europa League, what would happen if they win the FA cup aswell? Does the EL spot of the FA cup go to Liverpool, in which de league cup spot goes to Cardiff City, the losing side in the league cup? Or does de FA cup spot go to Chelsea since Liverpool already has one?(in this hypothetical situation Chelsea loses the FA cup final)
Well you've got 2 EL qualifying spots: the FA cup winner and the league cup winner gets one. In my hypothetical situation, both spots go to Liverpool, what happens then? You can hand Liverpool only one spot in the EL, does that mean that the other spot(the league cup one or the FA cup one) go to either Chelsea or Cardiff City? Or is the spot distributed in the PL?
If Liverpool win the FA Cup, then that becomes their entry into the Europa League, as it takes precedent over the Carling Cup, for some reason. The Carling Cup place would then go to the league, allowing the 6th place team entry.
Us Toon fans have been debating this to death (on another forum, I may add) for the past three months. The loser of the Carling Cup does not get put forward into the Europa League if the winner of said cup qualifies for Europe via another competition. Or something like ****ing that.
Ah, many thanks, out here in the Netherlands some masterminds at the Dutch version of the FA thought it was a good idea to give the EL spot to the losing side of the cup finale if the winner qualifies for the CL.
Cove, serious answer. The league cup runner up will never get the Europe League spot. Right. Liverpool won the league cup so they are in Europa. 5th place in the EPL also gets a europe league spot. If Liverpool win tomorrow, Chelsea will get the Europa league spot and they get it even if they win Now, if Chelsea win the Champs league then there Europa spot goes to whatever team is in 4th position. Every team in the top 6 of the EPL at the moment will be in Europe no matter what next season and Liverpool.
