Morning all. Apologies for invading with a blatant plug for something, but I checked first with cyprussyd and he said it was okay for me to do this. I’m a regular on the Fulham board, so I’m a genuine not606er, not a random outsider using the site for self promotion.

I’ve written a mini eBook about football. 'Humbled for a Season: In defence of football' is now published on Amazon for Kindle users and on iTunes for iPad, iPhone, etc users, for a bargain price of £1.50 or thereabouts.

The book was prompted by the seemingly endless controversies this season – Tevez refusing to play, racism allegations, death threats, refused handshakes, diving, excessive spending – and the accompanying claims that football was in crisis and losing its soul. I wanted to put the opposite argument, that football is still in rude health and that there are still plenty of valid reasons for loving football. I look at issues gathered around three major factors – players, fans and money – and then conclude with a chapter that asks what it is about football that makes us care so much about it in the first place. United feature more than most teams, with the fallout from the Suarez-Evra business, Rio getting booed by Chelsea fans after the Terry-Anton F business, and with references to the film Looking for Eric and the BBC drama United.

Due declaration: the final chapter includes some thoughts on the spiritual implications of the game. That isn’t the main focus of the book by a long stretch and it shouldn't spoil the enjoyment for anyone who takes a different view to me on such matters. I only mention it because I wouldn't want anyone to feel they were tricked into reading that stuff under false pretences.

If you want to buy it, here’s the amazon.co.uk link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Humbled-Sea...F798/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338099634&sr=8-1 . If you don’t have a reader for eBooks, Amazon also provide free-to-download software that lets you read their eBooks on a PC. You can get that from http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature....vpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&ref=pd_sl_31kqfvvp90_b

Here’s the link to buy from iTunes http://itunes.apple.com/gb/book/humbled-for-a-season/id529518475?mt=11

It's on Facebook as well, if you're interested: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Humbled-for-a-Season/411556148876604

Thanks for your time. If any of you decide to check it out, I hope you enjoy it.

There are four chapters with a total of about 8000 words (which doesn't include the introduction and other bobbins). The aim is for it to be a short, sharp, stimulating read rather than a full-blown book - the kind of thing people might read on a commuter journey or something like that. It's short enough to read in one sitting if you want, but long enough to do in smaller chunks if you prefer.
