Without reading the article and from memory.....we were locked out by Lloyd, who was the landlord, because the clubs owners, Buchanan and Hinchcliffe had not paid the rent. The now famous 'padlocked gates' which every Tom, Dick and eggchaser wishing to have a pop at us has insider knowledge and remembers every second and minute detail of those troubled times, was done to bring things to a head.
    It did.
And the Sheffield Steelers revenue source was cut and they threw the towel in.
This opened the door for Adam Pearson to buy in and it also gave the nod to HCC to start building the KC .
So the 'padlocked gates' incident was one of the biggest turning points in our history and David Lloyd was not the son of the devil for doing it. He actually did us a favour.

    The whole thing was pre-arranged.

I was asked on the Monday morning to come up to Hull to do the forfeiture, the company who I worked for thought they could save a couple of nights hotel bill, if I stayed at my Mam and Dads.

I was told that the groundsman (who had been sleeping on site) would leave the BP empty at a set time and we would have free access. I turned the job down as I did not want any part of it and it was not fair on my family in Hull.

To effect the forfeiture, every single lock would have to be changed and notices posted on every entry point, something that in my experience takes hours. If someone (anyone) was in the ground, the whole thing would have to be cancelled. Every room had to be searched and a full inventory made. Put simply without the consent of the tenant, it would be impossible.
