Pigs were called, (don't know the spelling) Chackies amongst the fishermen where I lived, also rats were never called that but Longtails.
I didn't read anything in the article about rabbits. I used to hear that a ship would not sail if two rabbits had been tied to a mast. Something akin to sabotage from other trawlers.
