I assume there'll be a presser later in the week, but the news so far...

Powell has only taken part in light training and is unlikely to return until the Derby game.

Hayden is back in training and is expected to be available.

All players are expected back from international duty with no issues, other than Hernandez, who will only return to training on Friday.

Incidentally, Hernandez has travelled a total of 14,000 miles, without playing a single minute.

We might not have him available on Saturday for absolutely no good reason.

International friendlies are a waste of time and effort. Abel won't be up for the game on Saturday and SB has a ready made excuse as to why not :steam:

Uruguay's games were World Cup qualifiers, but I think that your point still remains.

I'm hoping we get Kuciak doing the presser to blow everyone's mind. <laugh>

The England Germany friendly wasn't a waste of time.

Abel is physically weak and that's our problem. We should have known this before signing him.

From memory he played after one of our last international breaks and scored, I believe against Forest?

Abel I suspect will be on the bench, called upon if necessary and 'saved' for Derby away in midweek.

    Diame plus Aluko/Akpom

Thought Aluko did OK at Boro but he never picks the right pass (the other 2 are guilty to an extent as well)

Maloney and Meyler both played for their countries so will be back in contention as well for midfield.

It’s been a busy few days for those players away on international duty.

As they return to East Yorkshire to resume training ahead of Saturday’s home game against Bristol City, here’s what they have been up to around the world.

    Mohamed Diame
Diame’s Senegal faced a double-header with Niger as qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations continued. Diame impressed in the first of the two games, scoring in a 2-0 victory on Saturday before being withdrawn after 67 minutes. Diame was in the starting line-up again for the return fixture on Tuesday as Senegal recorded a 2-1 win.

    Abel Hernandez
Qualifying fixtures for the 2018 World Cup were the focus of attention for Uruguay with Hernandez part of the squad that faced Brazil last Friday and Peru on Tuesday. However, there was to be no action for the striker as he watched on from the bench. For the record, Uruguay drew 2-2 with Brazil before beating Peru 1-0.

    Adama Diomande
Diomande was given the chance to impress as he earned his second and third caps for Norway during a pair of international friendlies. The striker played the opening 65 minutes of a 0-0 draw with Estonia in Tallinn last Thursday and played the opening half in a 2-0 win against Finland in Oslo on Tuesday.

Allan McGregor, Andrew Robertson & Robert Snodgrass
The trio were all involved as Scotland beat the Czech Republic in Prague last Thursday. McGregor kept a clean sheet in his 90-minute appearance while Snodgrass also completed 90 minutes in his first international appearance since his long-term knee injury. Robertson played 58 minutes of the victory.

    Shaun Maloney
Gordon Strachan rotated his squad for Tuesday night’s game at Denmark, calling up Maloney to feature in the friendly in Glasgow. Maloney played 68 minutes in a 1-0 victory.

    David Meyler
The Republic of Ireland played two friendly fixtures over the weekend with Meyler appearing in the first, completing just over an hour of Friday’s 1-0 victory over Switzerland in Dublin. The midfielder was then rested for Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Slovakia.

    Chuba Akpom & Isaac Hayden
Hayden missed out on a first England U21 cap when he had to withdraw from the squad to face Switzerland in Thun over the weekend, but Akpom (pictured) was on form as he scored in the 1-1 draw. The striker completed 86 minutes before being substituted.

    Brian Lenihan
Lenihan played a full 90 minutes for Republic of Ireland U21s as they were beaten 4-1 by Italy before sitting out a 3-1 defeat to Slovenia.

Akpom scored at the weekend and as Hernandez probably won't play, he's got to play. Bollocks to Diame up front, it doesn't work anymore.

Diame can definitely **** off to the bench, been saying it the past few games.

    Got to start Akpom.

Also got to play 3-5-2, for ****s' sake. Need to change it up.

The closer we get to the game, the more nervous I get and temptation to change my prediction to a 0-0 for Sat creeps in. I'd like us to spring a change in formation to 3-5-2 as Brizzle will no doubt be preparing for our 4-4-1-1 of the past few months and this could hopefully give them a headache

Last time out they won 6-0, albeit against Bolton.

That's the obvious thing to do, although with Hernandez tired I doubt we will have the man power, unless we put Diame up front again.

Ye they'll never have seen 3 5 2 in their life.
Their manager won't have prepared em. It'll be like seeing fire for the first time.

Bristol City also only had one international call up, CB Alex Pearce, so they will have been able to train together as a full squad. Gay.

As opposed to spending the international break watching back videos of us playing the same formation for 8 weeks or so. They'll never be able to work out the key to stopping us.

Burnley trained Christmas Day and that worried us! Turns out it was fear for nothing. Though I suppose this is a bit different as our players haven't been stuffing themselves over the break. <laugh>
