The Under-18s are in FA Youth Cup action on Wednesday night when they host Norwich City at the Eon Visual Media Stadium (KO 7pm). The Tigers will be hoping to enjoy a good run in the competition, as they did a couple of seasons ago when they reached the quarter-finals before bowing out to Liverpool, but will face a tough test against Category One opposition in the Canaries. The Norfolk club ply their trade in the Barclays U18 Premier League South and currently sit 11th in the league table after four wins, two draws and ten defeats in their opening 16 games of the season. Norwich will be looking to end a disappointing run of form when they make the trip to East Yorkshire, having suffered six defeats in their last eight games with a 4-3 win away at West Ham being their solitary win during the run, whilst the Tigers will be looking to register a third successive win following victories over Leeds United and Coventry City in their last two U18 Professional Development League 2 fixtures. Speaking ahead of the tie, Academy Manager Tony Pennock said: “The Under-18s have had the results that their performances have warranted in their last two games. “Their continued hard work on the training ground has seen them perform well in victories over Leeds United and Coventry City. “It will be a tough test for them against Category One opposition in Norwich, and it would be a big bonus for our youngsters to have the fans’ support at North Ferriby.” Admission to Wednesday night’s FA Youth Cup Third Round tie at North Ferriby United is priced £4 Adults and £2 Concessions. Please note that Season Cards are not valid for this fixture.
Norwich always seem to have a good academy, so not a surprise. Couldn't get there tonight, but will go to the KC Monday to watch the U21's.
I'm guessing it's the lad mentioned here... http://m.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull-Schools-National-Finals-Watford/story-11978580-detail/story.html Here... http://m.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull-Schools-win-Billy-Fletcher-Trophy/story-11967598-detail/story.html And here... http://m.hulldailymail.co.uk/Dale-treble-helps-sink-Leeds-Reps/story-11948103-detail/story.html Charlie Andrew also in there. Must be pretty young for under 18s.
Missed this one, it seems our U18's got a bit of a tonking on Saturday... please log in to view this image
Ahmed Salam is the son of one of my dad's business partners. His Dad is Egyptian born but has lived and worked in Hull for a long time. Ahmed was born in Hull and is British and it's just coincidence that he has Egyptian lineage (i.e. the family don't know the Allams personally as far as I'm aware), he's only 16 and has been involved in the u18's about 4 or 5 times this season so he's doing well.
Think this highlights the difference between the u18's and u21's. We've had to buy in players to compete at u21's. The u18's are homegrown and it's showing. Going to take a few years of good coaching to get them up to the required standard. Barring Tymon obviously.
