The Under-18s are in action on home soil for the second successive Saturday when they host Bolton Wanderers at Bishop Burton College. Billy Russell and Richard O’Donnell’s side will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing result against Brentford in their previous outing last weekend after going down to a 2-1 defeat against the Bees. Meanwhile, the young Trotters head to East Yorkshire also looking to get back to winning ways after a 3-1 home defeat to Coventry City in midweek, although prior that loss they had strung together an impressive run of four successive wins. Saturday’s U18 Professional Development League 2 encounter is taking place at the Academy’s Bishop Burton College base with kick-off at 12noon. Entry is free to all spectators.
The Under-16s are also in action against the Trotters on home soil, which is again a 12noon kick-off. On Sunday, the Academy’s Under-9s, Under-11s and Under-13s will travel to Thorp Arch to face Leeds United United (KO 11am). The Under-9s and Under-11s will both be 7-vs-7 games, whilst the Under-13s will be 11-vs-11. Meanwhile, also on Sunday, our Under-10s (7-vs-7), Under-12s and Under-14s (both 11-vs-11) will host Leeds United at Bishop Burton College with all games due to kick-off at 11am.

U18s Report: Hull City 3 Coventry City 2 Goals from Ben Hinchliffe, Ellis Barkworth and Robbie McKenzie saw the Under-18s register a second successive U18 Professional Development League 2 win with a 3-2 victory over Coventry City on Saturday. Despite dominating the early exchanges, the Tigers fell behind to a Dan Smith goal but got themselves back on level terms five minutes before the break courtesy of ben Hinchliffe’s eighth goal of the campaign. Second half goals from Ellis Barkworth and Robbie McKenzie put City in control, before Smith grabbed a late goal to ensure a nervy finish but Billy Russell and Richard O’Donnell’s side held on to claim a second successive victory. Dan Batty had the first two chances of the game, shooting wide from distance on both occasions. Batty then turned provider after nine minutes when his in-swinging cross on the left was headed over by Mitch Langton. Jonathan Saltmer was called into action for the first time in the game when was forced to push Smith’s lobbed effort wide, before Jordan Thompson fired a powerful effort wide from distance for the Sky Blues. Tyler Hamilton came close to breaking the deadlock when he saw a shot well saved by Konrad Skuza in the Coventry goal on 22 minutes, before the visitors opened the scoring just a minute later. A long ball was charged down by Saltmer but his kick came back off his own defender to give Smith the simplest of finishes and he made no mistake from close-range to give the Sky Blues the lead against the run of play. Russell and O’Donnell’s men immediately went in search of an equaliser with Hamilton twice going close with curling efforts before Hinchliffe saw his instant control and shot tipped over by Skuza. McKenzie missed a glorious chance to level the scores at the far post following a great ball in by Batty, and the Tigers continued to press with Marc Kelledy going close following an impressive link-up play between himself, Hinchliffe and Hamilton. McKenzie’s free-kick then went just wide before a driving run from the midfielder led to his fierce shot being pushed wide by Skuza. The Tigers’ pressure eventually told five minutes before the break, though, as Batty’s corner from the right was headed down by Lewis Ritson and Hinchliffe pounced from close-range to ensure the scores were level at half-time. Hamilton and Kelledy both saw curled attempts drift wide after the break and Batty also had a powerful strike from the edge of the area well saved. At the other end, Smith had a low strike held by Saltmer before the Tigers’ keeper almost got caught out by a long-range strike – Saltmer just doing enough to tip the ball over the bar. The Tigers took the lead on 56 minutes when another dangerous delivery by Batty put the ball on a plate for Barkworth and the captain made no mistake with his header after being left completely unmarked inside the box. The game became more of a scrappy affair after the Tigers’ second goal and neither side had many chances until McKenzie made it 3-1 with 13 minutes remaining. Skuza could only parry Hinchliffe’s free-kick into the path of McKenzie, who made no mistake with the goal at his mercy. That wasn’t the end of the scoring though as Smith grabbed his second of the game for the Sky Blues after benefitting from a defensive mix-up but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation strike as the Tigers held on for the win.
