I was curious about this story yesterday: ”"Hugo is a goalscorer and I feel he should get at least 10 goals, so that is something we have to work on," Jol told The Fulham Chronicle. "He will say 'boss I didn't play all the matches', so you've got to look at it from both sides.” please log in to view this image My first thought was that Jol was being nice because it was Hugo’s birthday but then the cynical side of me wondered, if we were getting Osvaldo, is this Jol putting Hugo in the transfer window. And goodness today, according to the Mail: "Hull City boss Steve Bruce has failed in his bid to be reunited with former Wigan forward Hugo Rodallega. Fulham have rejected a bid of around £3million for the 28-year-old, who signed a three-year deal at the London club after joining on a free transfer last summer." Frankly that seems a very fair price, if true. I can only assume that we are holding out until we do indeed have a new striker in place.
Considering the competition for players this summer, I don't think £3m is such a done deal amount. Hugo is a decent back up player and if we sell him we are left with just Berba and Bryan. Sure we are looking to sign a striker, but we absolutely have to actually sign another forward before even consider selling Hugo.
They are welcome to him. Hetries hard but ultimately doesn't score enough, especially for a big bloke. If he was like Carrol I'd say hang on to him but he just isn't prolific enough.
Apparently his THREE goals came from SIXTY NINE shots, giving him a conversion ratio of around THREE percent. Compared to Berbatov who was around EIGHTEEN percent, you can't have a striker that needs around 20-25 shots to score a goal.
He's got a good leap but he's not actually a "big" bloke (5'11") and quite slim. I remember being very surprised when I saw him for the first time 'live'.
Considering we got him for nothing and he's not likely to be on THAT high wages, we haven't done too badly from the deal. He's a decent option to bring off the bench, but if we can bring in someone younger and on even lower wages and just as good then I'd be all for his exit. However, with us having just released Petric and Trotta not being at that level yet, I can't see Jol letting Rodallega go, regardless of whether or not another striker comes in.
And if your car breaks down on the way ill push it the rest of the way with Hugo in it. He is useless... I'd rather we spent money on commissioning another MJ statue than on his wages.
I'm in the out camp too but replacement is needed and as mentioned low wages and on a free it will be tough to justify, his goal ratio speaks for itself shocking. Championship level player or impact off the bench at best.
We've yet to replace Petric unless they think Trotta or someone else is ready to step up. With Fulham looking to bring in a couple of strikers, I can see Rodallega being on the bench a lot if we get them. He's not a prolific goalscorer for us, but then he hasn't had a decent run in the team, or really set up a partnership up front with any of the other strikers. Charlie Austin was going to join Hull but he failed their medical, papers have said he's had shoulder injuries, so I can't see us going for him.
I feel that cashing in on Roda would be a great, yes we need another c/f but to try out the Tank/Woodrow would be a far better option, they may not be the finished articale but there ability has to be better.
Hilarious that so many want him out when him leaving would leave us with Berba and Trotta as recognised strikers. We need to be sensible, and get the squad in order. If we let him go without signing one or two more strikers that would be bad business.
3 million pound offers for someone with the ability, or lack of it does not come along to often, so i still say sell and add to, for a replacement
