    Typical British bullshit.

It was an Argentine Penal colony until 1832 and the Argentines resident were expelled from the islands.

I take it everyone who supports the Falklanders also supported the Russians in the Georgia conflict a few years ago?

    Thought not.

    Hypocrite half-red ****s.

Yep, always support the Russians in their battles with the Nazi collaborators. And the Serbs for that matter.

My history is not great but as far as I'm aware Argentina did not even exist at the time when the british had claimed the islands, and isn't argentina itself a colony of the spanish? its all bollocks but at the end of the day the people there wish to be british.. The same can be said about gibraltar, they were given a referendum as to whether they wanted to be spanish they all said no.. Self determination.. lets face it though if there wasn't a shed load of oil there no one would give a **** anyway.

Here's the wiki article (I know, I know).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falkland_Islands_sovereignty_dispute

Part of the reason the US and the UK don't recognise Argentina claiming the island first is that they didn't recognise the country at all when it gained independence.

It's a murky business but read the comments on any online article about this and you'll see "The Argies have never owned it" repeated ad infinitum.

It's not true and the current residents are the descendants of a populace that was purposely taken there to replace the expelled Argentinian residents.

Argentina was undergoing a civil war right through to the 1860s after gaining independence, Argentina had sent colonists to the Falklands for around a decade before Britain set up our permanent colony, every attempt of theirs to make a longterm settlement failed, we are still there 170 years later having never left, no other country has been there in those 170 years and we were also there between 1765 and 1774, which was before Argentina even existed.
But don't lets the facts get in the way of your bigotry.

Dunno where to start with this - Argentina declared independence in 1816 - Britain and the US refused to accept it (for territorial and resource reasons, predictably).

The resident Argentinians were expelled in 1833.

The Argentine "permanent colony" you speak of was expelled by the UK military.

    Now, about those facts...

Only Argies and those who hate Britain could ever think they have any kind of claim to the Falklands and this timeline shows why.

    I'm British.

You don't have to be from another country to recognise the wrongs of our country's military past or the misgivings in the weird bluster of our global bullying.

Only a propaganda-fed mong would believe that an archipelago (sp) in Argentina is British.

There are only something like 1,500 residents and the UN has them listed under a special dispensation of territories that physically cannot exist on their own.

You said the Argentines had no historical claim to the islands and never had a permanent colony.

They were expelled by a colonial power.

The argument on Argentina not having a claim to them revolves around Britain and the US's refusal to accept Argentina as an independent country for 40 odd years.

Imagine the Argies claimed Jersey and, throughout certain times, stationed more troops there than there are residents - they attained Jersey by expelling British residents at the time but they don't accept that because they deny that your country existed at the time.
