    Courtesy of Joey......

Barton also claimed Chris Hughton was sacked by Ashley because of player power.
He says senior members of the squad led a revolt against the billionaire's plans to impose a new bonus scheme when Newcastle were promoted back to the Premier League. When the squad refused to buckle, Hughton took the blame.

Barton added: 'We were only club in Premier League history not to sign a bonus sheet. It never happened. It's unprecedented. We refused because they tried to railroad us into it.
'It fundamentally cost Chris Hughton his job as he couldn't get us to sign so Mike Ashley said he had no control over the players and that was his undoing.
'Chris knew he was on borrowed time from then - yet this was a guy who kept club together when we went down, had no budget, inherited a playing squad fragmented and disjointed and handled himself with nothing but dignity.
    ........................................................................................................
The job was never subsequently advertised so Fat Mike brought his own yes man in on 5 year deal..

He's doing alright at Birmingham... Hope he doesn't get squashed by the dodgey owners there!

While it all looks like Mike Ashley wants to have the last word on everything that goes on at the club, you have to ask why not? it's his club he's being the overdraft, so why shouldn't he get to make the decisions? it's a business, Barton and the players are his employees, so if they don't like the salary scheme, no wonder they are being moved on or let go. I'd rather have mike Ashley being a tight ass over giving Duff and Owen and Viduka 80 or 100 k a week for being injured. The new regime is working, the yes man is doing a stellar job. Our team is better than it was, we're playing better football as well. I'm really not troubled by players egos being hurt.

^^this. I don't like Ashley but I can understand some of his actions. As for Barton he should build a bridge and get over it,self important scouse,to quote himself, helmet.

I particulay love the bit where Joey equates not getting a big ****off bonus (for being promoted with the strongest squad in the league) with working in Sports Direct. Yes Joey, I'm sure you and 'Nobby' were on £5.40 an hour...

So happy this 'senior players committee' has ****ed off to ****ter pastures, Steve Harpers a better man than to be lumped in with Barton.

Tbh it makes sense. A manager has clearly lost power over his players if they're forming a 'committee' and bypassing the manager completely to argue with the board. Can you imagine that happening on Pardew's watch?

I have lost so much respect Barton after I read his quotes this morning. Just sounds like a bitter idiot because we are doing better now he isn't here. It's almost as if he wants our good start to end!

That's my view of all of this. Stuff that has been dead and buried for plenty of time now and there was no sense in him bringing any of it up other than to stir ****.

Besides all of that, I couldn't really give a toss about any of this because I'm more than happy with what this apparent 'yes man' is doing under the current regime.

The rumour was he'd lost control of the dressing room, and in fairness based on the number of smashed players I saw in clubs in my uni days (Titus, Dyer, Bowyer, Cort etc) there may be some truth to them. Souness came in to try and steady it...

Sounds pretty accurate by Barton to be fair. I still don't think I've learned anything new about the owners though. I've always felt they were tight unlikeable ****s. They're not really bothered about public perception though, its just a business that needs to turn a profit. If we do well great (as we are now), if it goes tits up and we god forbid went down at some stage, so be it. We've been there before and the club will be around a lot longer than any owner. Of course I'd like us to be run differently in some aspects but I've given up wondering about how the club is run because only one man has any say in it, and thats the way it is. I'll just enjoy whatever is put in front of me on the pitch.

I also don't subscribe to the notion that a players committee is a bad thing. There are many different ways to run a football club successfully. Having players committees is a common one and a very successful one. Of course if the wrong type of players get power it can be a bad one. Personally I thought our senior players committee did a very good job. I'd like to have kept elements of it but it wasn't to be and we move on.
