QPR are weighing up a move for South Africa international striker Katlego Mphela, 27, of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Manager Mark Hughes is interested in Fulham’s Clint Dempsey and Bobby Zamora but is struggling to get deals done.
He also likes Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling but they are unlikely to allow him out on loan.

Watching him at the last World Cup he was a real handful. Not the worst piece of business we could do imo.

You obviously need to have a mean free kick to get Mark Hughes interested!

This one is scored on Iker Casilas, voted the worlds best keeper for a record fourth year running.

What is it with Loftus Road and South Africa? Firstly they play most of their games in Europa here, and now we're linked with three of their players (Pienaar, Claasen and now Mphela)! Coincidence?

You're right though Cerny, we're talking Daily Mail here. But what a shot on him!

The one positive if we sign him is that I and 16,000 other Sooperhoops fans can bring their vuvuzelas to Loftus Road! <wah>

Has MH been given orders to look for players in certain regions?
I'm not being cynical or anything but... might be able to spread our ' Global Brand! '..... I'm just saying is all.

As long as we don't get the Vuvuzelas spread in return I think it's a smart move.

You're right though, the African market is to be underestimated at your peril. The Premier League is absolutely massive down there, judging by fan zone on the Premier League Channel they are very enthustiastic about it as well.

Fine, Mphela is OK. But I still cannot believe these are the only ones we're going after? Surely there are plenty of others all over Europe as well as the world that we can get? I mean there's only 5 days left!

I'm sure there are one or two on nobody's radar at the moment. Mphela might be a gamble but there have been some good SA players over here before...

    QPR want Mphela
    Posted: 2012-01-25 09:32

KickOff.com can confirm that Katlego ‘Killer’ Mphela is a target for English Premier League side Queens Park Rangers.

This was confirmed this morning by Mphela’s business manager Glyn Binkin, who couldn’t provide details of QPR’s interest.

“There has been an enquiry made, but I can’t comment further than that,” Binkin says.

‘Killer’ is currently the PSL’s top marksman with nine goals this season and the third highest Bafana Bafana scorer of all time with 22 goals in 44 international matches.
