Hughes has snapped up Park, 31, for an undisclosed fee with the South Korea international bringing an end to his successful seven-year spell at Old Trafford by agreeing a two-year contract with Rangers. Hughes is currently without a skipper after Joey Barton was stripped of the armband following his antics against Manchester City on the final day of last season. The controversial midfielder was also banned for 12 matches and fined six weeks' wages after he was sent off for elbowing Carlos Tevez, then kicking out at Sergio Aguero before appearing to aim a headbutt at Vincent Kompany. Hughes says he has plenty of candidates to take over as captain but admits Park, who won four Premier League titles, three League Cups and the Champions League with United, is a contender. "Ji will come into my thinking in terms of a new captain for the club," he said. "I'll have to see who steps up and who is a natural fit for it. I'm sure people will want the role and to show me they are the right for it and that includes Ji. "But we've got other guys as well with experience, Djibril Cisse is a Champions League winner so we have good characters in the dressing room who could take on the mantle." http://www.teamtalk.com/news/2483/7885307/Hughes-pondering-Park-captaincy Sorry if posted before, couldn't find a thread about it though. Cisse's a contender, good shout Northolt. I'm warming to the idea myself tbh.
First though, I think he need to grow into his shirt Then he could be a fine captain. please log in to view this image Or did they just use Tony's shirt for the photo session??
I would not have JSP down as a natural leader from the little I've observed. Strange that Barton was also brought in and made Captain very rapidly. JSP a rather different quality of person.
He's about as far removed from Joey as it's possible to be. A fine example to youngsters and contemporaries alike. As for captaincy, it's a question of whether he can impose himself, but he does for the South Korean team.
I suspect he's fluent on the language on the pitch. He's well respected and liked by the ManU players according to Rio F. If you wanted to have a chat with him about Einstein's theory of relativity, I think his English vocabulary might struggle. Joey will probably test it!
IMHO we had a real lack of leaders on the pitch last year. Hill and Derry are the two natural leaders who stood out last year by leading/playing by example. As both may be only squad players this year, i would make Hill Club Captain and Diakite team captain. I would hope that having that extra responsibility on his shoulders would calm him down a little bit. He would be my choice.
Whoever said language was an issue...are you for real?! He's been in England for 5 or 6 years and lived in Holland before that, i'm pretty sure he's fluent in English...silly point.
Sorry but I've heard any number of foreign players who have been in England several years and yet they still struggle to string a few sentences together. Looking at managers: Sousa and Capello himself are good examples. With the former, I used to recognise all the words he used but when you put them all together, they meant nothing. You need a certain fluency to be the ideal leader and not everyone, even those born and bred in Blighty, has it. In any case I think it may be premature for Park to be made captain. I'd rather he played himself in for a season first. I have warmed to the idea of Cisse myself.
No point in the captain being a player who won't feature much so its a no for Nelson who I reckon has been signed as cover and experience, not a regular. I'd like to think Cisse could stay on the pitch a bit more this coming season but he doesn't strike me as captain material. If Clint is allowed to play regularly I'd say he would be my obvious choice. Not sure if Derry is staying and he won't play as much as last year now that there are so many other midfielders in front of him. If Sparky is mentioning Park so soon after signing him there won't be long odds at the bookies for the Korean to be captain.
I think you will be surprised and end up seeing Nelson playing at center bk as i can see Onuoha at rb Nelson and Ferdinand and Fabio at Lb. And i think traore will be fighting for a left mid place.
