Hughes offers chance to QPR outcasts By Jacob Murtagh MARK Hughes has promised QPR's fringe players a clean slate – but hinted that he needs to whittle down the size of his squad. Rangers have more than 40 professionals on their books, with the new boss keen to make additions in the January transfer window. However, Hughes has offered fresh hope to the likes of Hogan Ephraim and Rob Hulse, who failed to make QPR's 25-man squad for the first half of the season. Asked whether everybody with be given a fair crack of the whip, Sparky said: “I would think so. There's a big group in fairness and that brings it's own difficulties. “I've always tried to involve everyone on the periphery. That's the way that I work. We'll give everybody a chance.” http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-sport/london-qpr/2012/01/11/hughes-offers-chance-to-qpr-outcasts-82029-30105446/? That headline got your attention, right?
Bloody oath it did. The good thing is he never actually mentioned hulse. Very general statement. All managers will say that but pretty sure hulse still has no chance.
I thought you meant Hulse at CB instead of Samba,Alex or Onouha. Phew!!!!!!! The Beta Blockers are beginning to work.
Hulse has been out of the team long enough now for me to almost forget just how awful he truly is. Almost... Ephraim is a different matter entirely. He has always been threatening to blossom into a seriously good player but never quite makes the final step up in quality. His lack of physicality is the obvious factor and virtually impossible to overcome of course. Still, given the obvious lack of incoming players we need some kind of miracle to happen before Saturday. Who will be MH's breakthrough player do we think?
Akos Buzsaky, i'm not being a sentmental sod here. Never think he got a fair chance under NW. And with Faurlin injured and no time to bring in a replacement for him yet, if Akos puts himself about in the training sessions leading up to the Newcastle game i'll think he'll start. Hopefully he takes his chance, his talent has never been in doubt, last chance saloon for him.
Agree with previous couple of comments. Buzz has a chance to prove he can cut the mustard - let's hope he takes the opportunity with both hands.
Re. fringe players. Whilst I think it is unlikely, I would have no problem with any of our fringe players suddenly producing the goods and giving Sparky a selection headache. Totally agree with previous comments about Buz and Hoges.
Hughes joins us a master manager whose record suggests he can save our souls. Whether that includes arse'oles or not I've no idea. He's not known for instant results, so I've reset my expectations to minimum for the moment. I want to see what if anything he can do with youngsters Harriman, Andrade and Hewitt as well as Macheda since none of them need a squad number. Agree that this is Buz's best and probably last chance to redeem himself but won't be holding my breath.
I guess being a Rangers fan of many years means excuses a little pessimism, cynicism and low expectation. Gawd knows, we've earned the right to be. But I sincerely hope Sparky proves all the doubters wrong and we're singing his name to the rafters in May and beyond.
