Hughes hopeful over QPR roleJanuary 9, 2012
Email PrintBy ESPNsoccernet staff
Mark Hughes has revealed discussions with QPR have "gone really well" after arriving for negotiations.

Mark Hughes has held talks over the QPR job
• QPR sack Warnock

Hughes has been lined up to take charge of QPR following the dismissal of Neil Warnock on Sunday and arrived at Loftus Road along with advisor Kia Joorabchian on Monday afternoon.

The appointment was not confirmed when he left the club later in the day but he remains hopeful of a positive outcome.

"I am pleased with how it's gone but nothing is confirmed yet," he told reporters outside the club. "We still have a lot to discuss but it went really well today. We will see what happens.

"There's a will to get to where we both feel comfortable with what's ahead. I have to be clear in my mind this is the right decision for me and QPR have to be confident in their own mind.

"One factor that concerns me is that I am an ambitious manager and have to make sure the club meets those ambitions."

He added: "It's interesting what everyone here has had to say. It's an interesting project."

Chief executive Philip Beard told Sky Sports News after the discussions: "It's fair to say we've got him interested and we are going to speak tomorrow and see if we can take it further.

"If we get things right then hopefully we can start looking forward to Newcastle on Sunday, but we have got some work to do overnight and then in the morning. I'm hoping Mark is going to come back and we can try to complete some of the discussions we've had this afternoon.

"His pedigree and background speaks for itself and he's the sort of person and the sort of experience that we need at QPR. I hope (the fans) will be excited by what we're trying to achieve at the club and hope that Mark will be the sort of person that they think is the right person at this stage and hopefully for the long-term future as well."

I think it'd be very positive if he does actually take over. Judging by what he's saying, I think we can safely assume that he'd be guaranteed a certain amount to spend. I'm sure he'd also want assurances that future investment is there should we stay up.

Rest of this season and if we survive as long as he keeps us in the Prem after that. But I think he won't be satisfied with that. How long are you going to give Harry's replacement?

This appointment will answer a lot of questions, questions that even our own Mystic Meg would not dare to report.
MH wants ambition and money to do it. Remember he walked out on Foolham because they 'lacked it'.

This will shut up all the doubters if he joins us, however if he does not then the TF doubters will be out in force.
Remember Scott Parker? A lot of people said it was purely a publicity stunt. Others in the press think that the Samba bid is also a stunt to cover up things.

This is not my view but people from the ‘gutter press’ and hopefully we can put this to bed with MH becoming our manager.

A more realistic question is how long will he give us? I think he'll be at Newcastle by Christmas.

I just dont like him as a manager, I would prefer Malky.

Judging by the poll however most (everyone else?) are happy with him, but if we all agreed the board would be a boring place wouldn't it.

The only sauce you have is coming on here spouting your rubbish trying to impress people. You are a muppet who talks ####. Maybe you can get your source to bring along the Russian Billionaire when Defoe, Bassong, and AJ (the done deals) join? They can all train on your 'Imminent training ground'.
As for 'Plank' i don't get dozens of people from here and other sites say i talk b###### like you do.

You have until the 31st for Defoe to join <ok>

Will certainly be interesting if Mark Hughes ends up your Manager. I supported him and thought (and still do) he is a good manager. I didn't like the way he left which was discraceful but there are many mercenaries in football and that's the way it goes nowaday,it would seem.

He comes with an expensive backroom staff of Eddie Niedzwiecki, Mark Bowen, Kevin Hitchcock and Glyn Hodges, to name a few - so I hope you have plenty in the Bank.

Let's hope he sticks at the job longer than he did us. I don't think he did himself any favours walking out so soon so that hindsight may work in your favour - he can't do that too many times again.

Good Luck !
