QPR boss Mark Hughes is among the contenders to take over as Chelsea manager, according to The Sun.

Hughes arrived at QPR in January.
The paper say that as well as Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Rafael Benitez, Hughes – a former player at Stamford Bridge – is in the frame along with Borussia Dortmund’s Jurgen Klopp.

It is also claimed that Chelsea’s players like Roberto Di Matteo even less than Andre Villas-Boas.

AVB was sacked on Sunday following a series of poor results and reports of player unrest.

But The Sun suggest the naming of former Blues midfielder Di Matteo as interim boss will do little to raise morale.

A source is quoted as saying: “The players could not stand AVB because of his arrogance. But, if anything, they like Roberto even less.

“He’s just too cock-sure. They might unite behind him to start with but after a couple of bad results it will be just as bad, if not worse.”

The Sun also declare that the appointment of AVB was a mistake which cost Chelsea £50m.

Former Chelsea manager Mourinho and Barcelona’s Guardiola are widely touted as the frontrunners to take over.

The Daily Star believe Guardiola is club owner Roman Abramovich’s first choice but the Russian will turn to Mourinho if he cannot get the Spaniard.

And the paper suggest Mourinho would insist that striker Fernando Torres is sold.

The Daily Mirror also say that Klopp is an outsider for the job, although Guardiola is the man Abramovich wants.

The Independent say Abramovich read the riot act to Chelsea’s players after sacking AVB, as do the Daily Express, who claim he warned them they could be sacked next.

I doubt it. MH has never won a trophy as a manager and the corrupt Russian p***k has probably never heard of him.

    Mourinho wants it.

Guardiola will go to somewhere with a more stable set up, less arrogant stars and potential (more likely Arsenal). Abramovic puts Chelsea off his radar (if he ever leaves Barca).

I'd be amazed if Hughes was in the frame but will always be linked by the bookies as an ex player.

The special one will be back to fight with the Russian dictator in the summer (especially if Real win trophies as looks likely).

I wouldn't be surprised if Redknapp ends up at Chelsea, along with Modric...

The Sun. Nuff said. I think MH is too intelligent to take that poisoned chalice.

Funnily enough they were going great guns at the top of the table last season until Wilkins was sacked, everything has been downhill since...

I've heard it said Wilkins is a good trainer, but not a good Manager.

At this stage of the process Dame Judy Dench is also in contention.

If it's anything like her role in Shakespeare in Love, she'll be there for a mere 10 mins and win an Oscar (but the pay off will be much more).
