Hughes adamant new-look QPR will deliver 20/08/2012 by David McIntyre QPR returned to Loftus Road for a training session this morning with manager Mark Hughes insisting his new-look side will prove their worth. Hopes were high at the club following another batch of signings, only for Saturdayâs eagerly awaited Premier League opener at home to Swansea to end in a humiliating 5-0 defeat. The result left Hughes stunned, but the Welshman remains adamant that Rangers are a much stronger outfit than last season and will avoid a relegation battle this time around. He said: âNo-one at this club expects us to be struggling this year. If we get our fundamentals right then weâll be fine, because talent-wise weâve got a lot of ability â more ability than we had last year. âWeâve got to bring everyone together and make sure they all understand their responsibilities and whatâs required of them. There are a number of things we need to do better. âItâs about making sure that as a group â and weâre a stronger group than last year â we bounce back quickly.â
Ok Mr H!!!? For a start I hope you got the legally available, but required in overdose, medicine for that case of Nervous Wreck you brought in to keep the ball out of our net.
There was a guy sat behind me in X Block slagging Green off from the first minute. Can't see how that helps his confidence
Absolutely right. Really glad to hear that from MH though not much else he might be expected to say. Green needs time. I do not believe they would have bought him if they thought he was not better than Kenny.
He wouldnt have even moved, he was less mobile than an 18 stone pub goalie last season. Kenny last season was Tony Roberts/Ikeme bad. It wasnt just one game but virtually every game. Green will have some way to go to have a season as bad as Kenny.
Optimism levels returning. We've got a great team and a manager that has made Fulham and Blackburn look good! Can't wait for Saturday (incidentally, does anyone know when the Norwich tickets are on general sale?).
1st day nerves playing in front of a massive crowd, expected to win the title, no wonder Green had a mare
Let's get some facts straight. Rob Green is a good goalkeeper. He needs to settle in and gain some momentum, that is all. Does anyone really think that Paddy Kenny, Radek Cerny or Murphy are better than him? Saturday's performance was not about having crap players. It was about lack of cohesion, which the players AND the manager have to take responsibility for. But, essentially, it's something that can be fixed and sorted out. Hopefully MH will realise that, at the moment, the emphasis needs to be on cohesion. I mean, look at teams who are over-performing. Those teams are all about the cohesion. We need to get what they have. Maybe the players came into Saturday's game feeling too confident, not adjusting well from friendly games to competitive ones.
awjm - Keeper question you raised? Kenny - Agreed worse than Green Cerny - Actually from his performances last season he might actually be a better keeper than Green? Murphy - No idea I haven't seen him play but he might be ok between the sticks. Green needs time but we don't have the luxury of giving him oo much if he gifts goals to the opposition DT - I'm off the fried food, doc's orders. Porridge, mixed nuts, some Acai supplements and Vit B tablets tea with no milk. Not reccomended. Not at all
Agreed about Cerny, his performances were excellent last season. Id think about starting him if Green plays like that again. He was a bundle of nerves but at least that can be fixed.
I think Kenny is better than Green because he can handle pressure. Green cannot, and he is going to be under pressure now. Kenny was often bad last season, and I wanted Cerny to be playing after he perforemd so well in December. For me Cerny must play again now if he is fit - we don't have the time to wait for Green to recover. Like you Wubba I don't know a thing about Murphy, but surely he can't be worse than Green?
Too much rich food I take it? The old hiatus hernia must be fluctuating and vibrating like hell to keep all those nice dishes down. I have the same problem and at times squeak like a toad I am told by Mrs DT
At our age DT a nice lunch consisting of beef wellington and a half bottle of claret cannot be tolerated that often. Ive had this discussion with Mr Kenny many times
